I just changed my iPhone plan to now include tethering. I can google instructions for USB tethering that sound like they'd be little trouble in Ubuntu or Debian, but I'm running CentOS 6.4. CentOS seems to be bundled with a setup which can use a 3G tether as a modem, but I suspect that that would work somewhere between poorly and not at all. (So far it's been not at all.)

Is a wifi dongle more promising? Edimax EW-7811, for $9, is listed on Amazon as supporting Linux. User comments were mixed about the CentOS experience. Amazon also has two models of Panda dongles, one or both of which I think are stated by the manufacturer as being compatible with Centos 6, for $14 and $15.

Any hands-on experience?

Billy
