Right. That approach was my first attempt. To fix the regression that way 
would involve a lot of patches.

# dmesg | grep ptrval

I've no idea why the crippled %p was not made dependent on a Kconfig 
symbol like CONFIG_DEBUG_FOO. Paranoia?
