Do you know for sure that you should be able to?

Chances are you've got something in the cut buffer and the middle button
is pasting it - lynx then thinks you've issued a load of commands.

1) I want to use filename completion I read that I can do it typing for
example:
ls /etc/pass<ESC><ESC>
But It doesn't work, why??? (Supose that there are only one solution)
2) If I press <ESC><=> it shows me any posible completion but if I try
to select a number it doesn`t understand that I want to complete the
filename with this option. How can I do it?
3) With readonly I can make a readonly variable but, how can I erase
this atributte??? What command is used to erase it and can modify after
these variable (or unset it)????

The entries aren't in /dev to "make something a device". What
defines a device is having a driver inside the kernel. The
entries in /dev are to allow programs to read, write, and control
the device. This isn't needed or useful with Ethernet cards,
since only the kernel itself initiates these operations.

Yes. If your job requires use of a basic e-mail client, a web
browser, maybe Excel and Word, then Windows is really the
more appropriate tool.

Scott is correct. Both Linux and FreeBSD are *doing* primetime
by people who don't diddle around with their systems. For
example, Hotmail runs on FreeBSD machines. Sounds "primetime"
enough to me.

I have an Acer CD-RW-6206A and am using xcdroast-0.96+cdrecord-1.6. I am

out how to erase a non-empty CD-RW media before I can re-use the CD-RW. I
tried to use cdrecord to blank the non-empty CD-RW to no avail, i.e.:
cdrecord dev=/dev/cdrom blank=track
If you know how to erase/blank a non-empty CD-RW on your Linux, please
kindly help and respond to this post through e-mail. Thanks.

application?
Date: Thu, 1 Jul 1999 17:59:35 -0700
I am now in charge of the network at a Chuch. One of the first goals they
set is email for everyone. It wasn't difficult at all for me to convince
them to let me build a Linux email server (Red Hat 6.0). I haven't done it
before but it should be educational.
I have a question though. I would like to give them the ability to have a
group calendar and group schedule. There is no way I could convince them to
switch the desktops over to Linux (I don't think I would want to train 30
computer illiterate people on Linux). What I am interested in is some
server type software that would interface with some off-the-shelf Windows
software (like Outlook or an equivalent). They have suggested MS Exchange
but I really don't want them to have to spend the money though Exchange
would handle email, calendaring and scheduling (plus it will be fun for me
to learn how to do it with Linux). Is there any such server for Linux? I
am by no means a Linux guru, I have only just started dealing with Linux
networking.
Any advice, pointers or URLs are appreciated.

Probably a problem with your version of Linux. I use the kernel
2.2.7 and have no problem with the PPP, on the other hand I use
SuSE and the intelligent dialer wvdial.

Hi,
I've recently purchased Slack 4.0 and installed it on my Bentium. That
worked fine.
Now what I'm trying to do is setup a AMD386DX40 for IPmasq/chains, the
problem is, after i fdisk the drive(s - I've tried many) i run setup and
the console just sits there repeating "Bus error", after about 10 lines it
stops doing caridge returns and only does linefeeds (so i get a stiarcase)
If i let it do this for several minutes it will bring up the first screen
and continue making bus errors.
I've tried this on two nearly equiivalent systems and I have no Idea what
the problem is, it can't be hardware unless Slack4.0 doesn't like
AMD386s...
Any ideas?

I have Slackware 3.5 with kernel 2.2.9 and KDE, but I have problem
with my Yamaha 719 Plug and Play ISA Sound Card. It does not work under
Linux. Perhaps I have wrongly configured and compiled the kernel for
the soudcard but I have already tried many different configurations and
it never worked. Usually when I logout KDE I see a message like "can't
load kaudioserver", but the card did not work even when I had no KDE
installed and used older kernel. Can someone please tell me how to
configure the kernel or where else can be the problem? Any help
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a Courier V.everything that is upgraded to V.90 and am using RH6.0.
The main reason I do not use Linux is because it will not work with my
modem.. The modem is set to use COM 3 and IRQ 9 in Win98 and there is no
problems, (hyperteminal works fine). Why does every time I start Minicom
that the INIT string is displayed very, very slowly? It takes about 30
seconds to display ATZ! It does dial but as I said it is extremely slow.
Kppp says the modem is not responding or is busy on every port I try. I
went to 3com's sight and read about some 1 page instruction on how to get it
to work in "unix" but all it said was which DIP switches to put down (which
I did) I bet no one on these news groups can give a decent answer because
no one has for a year.... good luck..

I've seen it answered several times. That's because it's a FAQ;
c.f., MODEM-Howto->Troubleshooting. There is copious documentation
available. If you've been using Linux for a year and haven't
figured out where the docs are, then you're just an idiot and
should wipe Linux from your machine. The taunting manner in
which you phrased the question isn't appreciated by those who
know the answer.
You have an IRQ conflict of some kind. You must face the
white whale, or he'll continue ramming your ship. Two different
interrupts are trying to be handled on the same line. Resolve
that, and it'll be smooth sailing. If you run into problems along
the way, post specific questions in which you describe your
approach in a logical, detailed, and polite manner.

SuSE is worth buying. It is kinda of like RedHat except that it
works better. The yast and sax installation routines are neat.
Under RedHat it is not very simple to install new stuff, it is
fun with yast.
There are a lot of stuff that for some reason or another I have
never been able to get to work, like the end and begin of line
char for instance, it works out of the box with SuSE.
I just bought another copy for one of my brothers. I had paid
$30 + tax at CompUSA. I got a $5 coupon in the mail from Barnes
and Noble and I went on their website and got it for $28.95
including shipping. This has 5 CDs and a good book.

Yawn. And ? You could do the very same with every bootable Linux
floppy or CDROM. There is no security if people do have physical access
to your box, anyways. Even if booting with a floppy was to fail,
they could still take away the HD out of your machine and mount it
at home. If you're that paranoid, use an encrypted filesystem.

When I used redhat 5.2 all worked fine, but after upgrading to RH6.0 I lost

and now the mouse works but with the same your problem...
I am still looking for a solution...
If I try it I mail to you (I hope you will make the same) ;-)

Did you check your syslog for IDE errors? You mentioned that you
did not think that it was a disk problem but not if you actually looked
for any errors in the log.
Not being able to erase files as root points to an education problem.
You you try deleting by inode or other ways around undeletable files?
The ext2 debug utility might have been the way.
Too bad there was not output presented of your attempts to delete the
files.
What was the syntax of the network backup command you were running?
I have run network backups for years; back when I used NFS on older
kernels I would occasionally hang, but never a crash like what you
described and not recently when using rsh.

Hint. Hint.

Yes. "man init" and then "man inittab", followed by "vi /etc/inittab".
