Go to cheapbytes.com and buy their mundo-pack for something like $20US
and try them all.
Then decide and keep the one you like best.

Right, IDE disks use lots of host access -- in many ways, IDE is to
disks what winmodems are to real modems -- no not quite as bad, but many
of the same corners are cut, for the same reasons: for a *single*
tasking O/S on a machine with lots of surplus CPU cycles, being used by
people who are looking for dirt cheap hardware.

SRF> Also, when the IDE disks are busy, the system feels sluggish (drag and drop

SCSI controllers use a dedicated intelligent controller card and DMA
transfers. The host processor just issues 'high-level' commands to the
card ("Read sectors 2078 from drive 4 to RAM starting at 0x00040987")
and the controller does the work, leaving the host processor free to
worry about your mouse cursor or serial port.

Can't do that because DOS 'sees' that there are logical drives within the
extended partition (they show up if you change physical drives), but they
don't show up if you try to list them, and so you can't delete them.

That's right!!!! I'd forgotten about that site. Excellent, I'll do just
that.

Use the Dialup Connection Tool. It will do everything for you except set up your
/etc/resolv.conf file which must contain your search domain and nameserver addresses.

Currently I have 2 hard drives, a 1 Gig, and a 10 Gig, with numerous
about 5 different mount points. I am running Redhat 6.1. Would it be
possible for me to purchase a new 20 Gig drive, and use the same
procedures to just copy everything from both of those hard drives into
the new drive? I want to get rid of all the mount points and only use 1
mount point.
Thanks,

What version of Leafnode are you running? You might want to go to
www.leafnode.org and read the FAQ there.

Depends on what you want. Forget about all the hypes on the DMA EIDE.
It cannot gives you any sustained high speed output as advertised.
To me. SCSI worth every penny extra that it costs.

You should use OpenBSD as a gateway. You should look for a stable, reliable,
securer and efficient operating
system as a gateway, OpenBSD is the best of all. Besides, OpenBSD is much
easier to configure than Linux.
All configuration files centralised in one directory /etc. You can manually
modify the files then just type
sh /etc/netstart to enable the change. While in Linux, you will have to use
the GUI tools, which required the use X. If the X is not setup properly, you
will be in very di8fficult situiation to find the right files to configure.
The problem is that onone tell you which files you should manually modify in
Linux.

Sam.
