Well...Maybe you're right. I tried freeamp and still getting the
same problems. Since my soundchip is on the motherboard, and no way
in the BIOS to change it's configuration, I'm not
sure if there's a way for me to remove the IRQ conflict short of
opening the computer and changing the PCI slot of the card?? If
anybody knows of another, better way... please let me know...

test> What's the deal?
Well, part of the deal is that you didn't do any debugging. If you
had, you would probably have found your problem.
If you break your loop action down, you should see the problem. The
inner loop completes in its entirety the first time you enter it --
the first time you enter the outer loop. Then the outer loop
completes. The inner loop is never reentered because after the first
pass, it tests false every time. The loops work exactly as expected
for the way you set them up.
Add `echo "acount is $acount" ' at the end of your outer loop and you
will see this in action.

edit the /etc/inittab file and change the line saying id:5:initdefault:
to id:3:initdefault. This allows you to easily change it bacl.
Alternitively you could re-run Xconfigurator and say no to starting X at
startup.

You want something like
zcat /usr/man/man1/foo.1.gz | nroff -man -Tansi | col -b | enscript
Or you can print to PS directly. I think its -Tps. I don't have an

Subject: Can't start Apache 1.3.9 with PHP3.0.16 on RedHat 6.1
Date: Sat, 22 Apr 2000 19:02:57 -0400
This is driving me crazy. I've built PHP 3.0.16 from source and I'm
trying to get it to work with Apache 1.3.9 (as delivered in the
apache-1.3.9-8.rpm). I've followed the instructions in the PHP
documentation, including the must-read RedHat instructions (which don't
seem to apply in my case since I'm not using RPMs for PHP) and it simply
does not work (apache won't start.)
I've built PHP as a DSO and I have:
LoadModule php3_module libexec/libphp3.so
AddModule mod_php3.c
in my /etc/http/http.conf file.
When I try to start apache I get, "httpd: httpd startup succeeded" on
the console but it does not in fact start (there is no httpd process.)
If I remove:
AddModule mod_php3.c
Then I at least get, "[error] Cannot remove module mod_php3.c: not found
in module list" and Apache won't start. If I remove, "LoadModule
php3_module..." then apache starts
I did have PHP4, beta1 installed but have since removed it from any
configuration file and from the apache modules directory. PHP4
installed and ran with no problem. I thought perhaps that something
from PHP4 was still lying around causing my problem, but I haven't been
able to find anyting.
httpd -l reports:
Compiled-in modules:
http_core.c
mod_so.c
Someone please beat me with a cluestick.

if you do an 'ls' IN the directory that was created when you untarred
and you see db2setup there, don't forget to put the dot-slash before
db2setup, since the new directory is not in your PATH
Go first to that dir:
cd <insert dir-name here>
then ./db2setup
I may not have DB2 but most packages outside of RPMs are like this

Assuming that '/dev/hda1' is the root disk used by the existing kernel, that
was exactly what I did.
It looks like kernel won't run if it's mounting a root disk which
doesn't belong to it. Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it ?

??? What is your complaint? All Linux distros use the same kernel. They
differ primarily in their startup scripts. In the past there has also
been some divergence in glibc as some made the transition befor others,
but all did and would have to make that transition. So unless you have
specifics...
PS. Do not post html code with your post.
That is REALLY STUPID.

Vasan,
There is a product called WebMail that ISP's use to let you get your
e-mail via web browser, which is OS independent. Check with your ISP to
see if they support WebMail - most do. In fact, many ISP's will have a
link on their web site home page called WebMail. Simply click on it,
enter your ID and password, and your e-mail appears. Hope this helps.

It's a amjor upgrade. The biggest thing is that COL 1.3 is built on the 2.0.35
kernel and COL 2.3 is based on the 2.2.10 kernel. The 2.2.x kernel supports a
wider range of hardware, including PCI sound cards, USB and quite a bit more.
There are a whole lot of other improvements at various levels... too many to
list. COL 2.3 also has a much simpler, graphical installation routine -- a plus
for a first-time installation, and if you buy the commercial package, it comes
with a lot more additional software.
Now, there are people out there who'll use COL 1.3 and just upgrade the kernel,
but you don't want to do this if you have no experience with Linux. Go with COL
2.3. You'll be happier, and you'll be more likely to become a concert from that
other OS.

The page size, and hence the location of headers and footers, is
embedded in the macros package used by nroff to generate man
pages.
There are two ways to print a man page.
First there is the really nice way, "man -t name | lpr", which
will generate a PostScript version of the man page and pipe it
to the print spooler. This will have headers and footers, and
they will be perfectly aligned on every page.
The second way is also occasionally useful. If you want to edit
the man page, or have an editable copy of it, this method
produces an ASCII version (minus any special fonts and effects
though). "man name | col -xb > name.man" puts such a copy of
the man page into file name.man.
