I am looking for a cheap and reliable UPS solution for a Linux
server, possibly using it as a master in a mixed OS environment
including NT and Solaris. I am leaning toward APC using apcd daemon.
Any recommendation on a particular model and software would be
appreciated.
Thank you.

Correct me if I am wrong, the only way (with minimal changes) to run your MS
ASP codes under Apache is to use Chilli! Soft ASP product. I do not think
there is any other implementation that can run ASP VBScript codes under
Apache.
Apache has two options for you to run codes similar to ASP (i.e. programming
codes embedded in HTML files that processed in the server space): 1. PHP and
2: Jave Server Pages(JSP).

I have an APC smart-ups 1000 and have two systems connected to it. It
won't run them for any great amount of time but it will run them about
15 minutes which is more than long enough to shut them down with out any
problems. They also have software named "Power Chute Plus" for linux
that you can download from their website.

Date: 29 May 2000 01:51:10 GMT
I'm trying to run a program on a CD under WINE on a laptop without a CD reader.
Is there a way to fool WINE into treating an iso9660 image mounted as a loop
device as an actual cdrom device? I've tried mounting the image under
/mnt/cdrom and setting Device=/mnt/cdrom under Drive D in wine.conf with no
luck (i.e., the image mounts fine but is not recognized by the program running
under WINE).
I'm running WINE-20000430 under RedHat 6.2 on a Compaq Armada M300.
Thanks for any help,

You can search by priority, by submitter, bu subsystem, by zillion

I am having some problems with terminal logons on a small linux (RH5.2)
network.
>From time to time and for reasons I have not yet ascertained various
terminals are unable to logon. The user is able to enter username but when
entering the password the system replies (after only a couple characters
have been entered) with an incorrect logon message and returns the logon
prompt. I have been able to overcome this problem by logging in as root and
changing the user's password to a single character. The user can then logon
(using this new password) after which I restore their original password. If
the user logs out at this point they can then log back in without any
problems.
The network runs several PC's via TCP/IP (no problems there) and several
dumb terminals connected via a DIGI 8 port serial board. Any ideas????

Two possibilities.
a) The directory /network onto which you mounted the nfs directory has
bad permissions. Make sure that it is rx for all users.
b) Your system has a version of nfs which is broken. The original knfs
which came with mandriake 6.1 was broken. (knfsd-1.4.1) Replace it with
the new nfs-utils.

find . -name "*.h" | xargs grep string_2_find

The warranty and liability expired as you read the message.
If the above breaks your system, it's yours and you keep both pieces.

Well, certainly I didn't say much about the issue because I had tried to
get help before specifying all my system with no positive results, so let
me explain you. At first I had Mandrake Linux 6.1 with 2.2.12 kernel, then
recompiled the same kernel with other options, that didn't work, so I
downloaded the lastest stable version, 2.2.15, compiled and installed it,
it didn't work either. So I went to some friend's house, I installed him
RedHat 6.2, I also brought the driver over to his house, tried to insmod
it, and worked, I mean it loaded, so I got back home now, installed RedHat
6.2 (with kernel 2.2.14), succesfuly installed the pctel.o module and
configured kppp to dial to my PPP account, now I'm using my linmodem from
RedHat 6.2 and I'm looking forward to install Mandrake 7 right now and
then installing it the 2.2.15 kernel just for fun, (it gives me 666.84
Mogobips out of a 333 Mhz Pentium II almost twice what it gave me with the
other kernel, I don't think I actually get that speed but what the hell,
it looks nice.. =), well anyway, thanks for you interest in my problem, I
don't know what it was but I don't have it anymore... hehe. This is a pine
composed message under an Xterminal, on Xfree 3.3.6 and RedHat 6.2.

You use grep(1); see its man page. The usual approach is to combine with
find(1) and xargs(1); see the findutils info pages. Something like
$ find / -type f -print | xargs egrep '\<Mendocino\>' /dev/null

They use Oracle on Sun hardware running Solaris. Quite why they use
NT for the front end is beyond me. But Ebay has recently had a deal
with Sun for hardware; if they've got any sense, they'll replace the
NT/IIS front end with some decent stuff.

NT tries to do almost everything UNIX does, but fails - miserably.
The use of Windoze cripples the mind; its use should, therefore, be
regarded as a criminal offence. (With apologies to Edsger W. Dijkstra)
