What do you want to do, if you want to download several files non-
interactively, you may want to look into wget. It's quite a neat little
program.

Subject: PIKT, Problem Informant/Killer Tool, v1.10.0 released
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Super-User)
Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2000 00:27:36 GMT

PIKT, Problem Informant/Killer Tool, version 1.10.0

HIGHLIGHTS: Rewrote much of the script processing code in a more
modular, readable, and maintainable fashion. Redid the array
implementation, introducing AWK-style associative arrays, also multi-
dimensional numerically indexed arrays. Added the #indent-#unindent
preprocessor directives, for automatic indentation of PIKT configura-
tions. Revised the value history mechanism, fixing a serious
scalability problem. Fixed several small bugs and made other code
    improvements.

PIKT, an innovative new paradigm for administering heterogeneous networked
workstations, is a multi-functional tool for monitoring systems, reporting
and fixing problems, and managing system configurations. PIKT is quickly
gathering potential as a serious security management system. PIKT comprises
an embedded scripting language with unique, labor-saving features; a
sophisticated script (and system config file) preprocessor, scheduler, and
installer; and other useful tools. PIKT is a category buster with many, many
different uses limited only by your ingenuity and imagination.

PIKT is distributed under the GNU General Public License. Available now
for Linux, AIX, FreeBSD, HP-UX, IRIX, OpenBSD, Solaris, and SunOS. For
more info, and complete source code, documentation, and data files, please
visit the PIKT Web site at:

It wasn't the DOJ that started MS's Problems.

I don't need this to download ... I need it to upload files at specified
intervals, so it needs to run from a cron job.

I have uploaded to Simtel.Net:

http://www.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/commprog/jcom170s.zip
ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/commprog/jcom170s.zip 513101 bytes

jcom170s.zip JCOM: 386-based PC MS-DOS terminal emulator

JCOM is a user friendly menu-driven software with rich features for
386-based PC MSDOS terminal emulator. It supports the ANSI, VT102 and
Linux consoles and also supports the function/cursor keys for each
terminal emulation. It supports RS-232 UART 16550A FIFO hardware with
speed up to 115200 bps and includes software and hardware flow control.
In addition to the default com1 to com4, JCOM supports hardware device
setup for other communication ports (com5 to com35). JCOM includes
command-file and DOSkey-like function which are very useful for
remote-system-command execution.

Special requirements: gsz9705.zip (gsz.exe) for ZMODEM protocol.
                      (optional requirements: list93a.zip (list.com)
                      for external browser).

Changes: Additional features added.

jcom170s.zip has replaced jcom170r.zip.

Well,
The way *I* did this was as follows:

Installed UWash IMAP on a Linux box
Created an account on the Mail Server
Used OE5 to transfer the mail from my local folders to Server

Once done, I can now simply use IMAP or use Netscape to
download the messages. Personally, I would leave it on the server.

I don't think this is necessary thanks to the 'default' option.
If the configuration works when you type dos at the boot prompt
then, if you wait 5 seconds your dos partition will be booted as
well.

True, it was all those weak willed individuals that were unwilling to support

Gnome will display the drives if they are listed
in /etc/fstab. You can then right click on the
desktop and choose 'Rescan default device' and
they will show up. They have to be user mountable
also to show up for non root users. You add the
'user' option to /etc/fstab to give users the
right to mount the devices. So here is my cdrom
listing in /etc/fstab
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro,user 0 0
Now the cdrom icon shows up for all users. Just
add something similar for your zip drive.

I currently use Ver 1.0 of Roaring Penguin's PPPoE client to connect
to Bell Atlantic Infospeed DSL. There is now a Ver 1.9 of that
client. Part of me likes to upgrade. Another part of me thinks that
if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Are there any benefits to going through the hassle of upgrading the
client?

Monitors don't have drivers per se. The behavior of the display is handled
through "modelines" in /etc/X11/XF86Config. Most monitors work with
standard VESA modes and you shouldn't need to mess with modelines.

Are you having a problem configuring X?

Yes, My Xwindows are huge. I have only been working on it for an few hours

to get a driver for one of those. One is S3 ViRGE 325 PCI and I have a pass

That's how I installed my first two copies of Slackware. Bu that was
back in '94 before everyone had huge hard disks and CD-roms. I don't
know if many Linux distributions still offer packages that fit on 1.44MB
disks.

Subject: Linux/Win logos -- can I use them?
Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2000 11:38:54 +0800

Is there anyone reading this who has some knowledge of the
legal situation with logos?

I'm writing a book "Linux and me", online at
http://www.crosswinds.net/~goosee/
and I want to insert various logos.

Firstly, the MS Windows logo -- you know the one that looks
like a waving flag.
Ok, you might think that's a trademark of MS, *but* it is also
a character in the WingDings font, so if I legally own Windows
then I should be able to legally use that character.
Then, if I paste that character into a paint program and save it
as a .gif image, am I still allowed to use it???

I am not going to bother with asking MS for permission, as my
book really puts the knife in in places. But, can I freely use that
WingDings character, saved as a bitmap?

Then there's the logos associated with the various Linux distributors.
I looked at the Red Hat legal page, and it's quite heavy, you must
not use our "red hat" logo!!! Written permission is required.
Ok, I can apply to the various distributors, but if I don't want to
bother, can I use "modified" or "alternative" logos?
Does anyone know of any "alternative" logos?

Regards,
Barry Kauler
