I've seen similiar problems, Linux-to-Linux, where the machine
initiating
the FTP wasn't defined in the '/etc/hosts' file of the server. For
whatever
reason, some FTP implementations attempt to do a reverse-dns lookup on
the
IP address of the machine initiating the connection, and can take
several
minutes to time-out before allowing the connection to continue.

I have no clue whether this would affect your Mac, or where you would go
to
set this information on it. It's something to look at...

FWIW....this is distributed.net's breakdown by OS of the exact numbers
of machines that were networked together over the internet to
participate in the RSA DES Challenge II:

Win32 (95/NT) 111,788,489
MacOS 48,878,795
Linux 29,834,793
Solaris 21,619,282

Now if someone can get a good statistic for any of these, you can
figure out about how many of the others are out there.

Is the imap package installed? Even it should have been installed
by default, check to make sure it's actually there. I know that
RH 6.1 wouldn't install it (though there's an installer update
that takes care of that).

Are there any easy to use WWW page building and site management apps for
Linux? Anything roughly equivalent to FrontPage? If not, what tools
are generally used for this function?

I've done some preliminary searches on this subject and the only thing I
came up with was Amaya (which I thought was a browser) and IBM
Websphere, which is probably overkill for my needs and likely has a
steep learning curve.

This only gets created on the users desktop if your /etc/fstab has the user
flag for the cdrom, frex:

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 ro,noauto,user 0 0

Then choose, I think, rescan devices on the desktop menu (right click, I
believe).

>4) Probably not be able to help...but my monitor display bows out in Linux

You can do some adjustment (size and position, but not pincushion) by using
xvidtune. The easiest way to use this is to install XF86Setup from the
first RH CD:

mount /mnt/cdrom
cd /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS
rpm --Uhv *VGA16* *Setup*

You can run XF86Setup from a gnome-terminal. Click on "done" (since you
only need to "refine" the configuration) and it will let you run xvidtune
and adjust the display. It will add those changes to the config file when
you're done.

You can run xvidtune by itself, but you have to add the results to your
XF86Config by hand. The above method does it for you.

Get Deluxe if you want phone support. BTW, 6.2 has been out for about 6
months; is the 6.1 box significantly cheaper?

After installation, I strongly suggest applying the wu-ftpd update at

http://www.redhat.com/errata.

I've been seeing a lot of haxored boxes lately and I suspect a wu-ftpd
exploit. Better yet, use scp from the openssh suite of commands or a
different ftp server:

Are you using LILO ?
If you are, simply add this section

#
other = /dev/hda1
  label = windows
  table = /dev/hda

to your /etc/lilo.conf file, and rerun /sbin/lilo .

As for other boot managers, I don't know --

You need different domains, but not different IPs. These virtual domains
need to be added to your DNS our your uplines providers DNS.

Then the DNS stuff is probably already set up correctly.

You probably need to turn relaying on for your domain in /etc/mail/access,
frex:

# Check the /usr/doc/sendmail-8.9.3/README.cf file for a description

mydomain.com RELAY

Hi,

linux (redhat 7beta) and win2k on it. I would like to know the
best way I should go about doing this. I am aware that there is a
1024 cylinder limit associated with LILO. So I would appreciate it
very much if someone could tell me how to partition my disk
(suppposing I give 20GB each to windows and linux). Also should I
first install win2k or Linux? And, do I use LILO or some
bootmanager of windows? (I haven't used win2k before and am a

The configuration includes: Motherboard - Intel CA810E,

When you changed motherboards (hard disk controllers), the hard disk parameters
to lilo changed. Click on the bios and select the same hard disk number,
cylinders, heads and sectors like the old motherboard.
Alternatively, if you can get lilo on the floppy, try giving the CHS number at
the lilo prompt.
If you can finallly boot linux, try to run lilo.
