I think you just see the help of lredir it would be clear how to
redirect the l: to ur /mnt/external. I think it must be like 

lredir l: Linux\fs\mnt\external

this command on prompt will mapp your /mnt/external to l: drive in
read/write mode. The same command you can run through any batch file.
