Though it's probably familiar material to most people on this list, for
the benefit of gamers I posted some notes on running games with dosemu at:

One thing I point out is that games that would not run well in dosemu on
the KDE desktop ran fine when I was using Blackbox.
As noted on that page, I could not get sound to work and I am not sure
whether this is a problem with dosemu or with my Mandrake-on-VMware setup
VMware's Soundblaster emulation lacks MIDI; even though the game I was
running didn't try to use MIDI, the setup program seemed to want to test
the MIDI and failed to recognize the virtual sound card.
