1. I do not know other windows managers, but chose ice, because it does not rely on mouse and does not bind too much resources. When I changed some lines in ice configuration files I noticed that this had an effect on mc behaviour under X. So I made a couple of tests without the ice window manager. When I run xdosemu without ice with the prefix 'rxvt -e' (what is this: shell? terminal?), all key combinations in NortonCommander work. This is great. QuattroPro with also a lot of key combinations: working. When I tried to start MS-Word for DOS without ice wm it crashed and shut down dosemu because the graphic mode did not work: it first attempted to start MS-Word in a very small, ca. 50 pixel window, before it crashed). When I changed the configuration to text mode (what is not naturally what I desire) I noticed: - the Alt+Fkey combinations formerly blocked by ice work - the cursor within Word has a different shape now - the same as in the command.com shell - unfortunately the important Shift+Cursor combinations do not work - alt (alone) to enable the menu bar works (BTW: *with* ice, too) >The keystroke problem is really only for terminals. >Maybe some improvement is possible in the future though: >in my xterm now (using 'cat'): >left arrow ^[[D >shift+left arrow ^[[2D >alt+left arrow ^[[3D >ctrl+left arrow ^[[5D >so these all give different escape codes so dosemu should be able to >recognize them. 2. I switched ice on again to test this on my machine: - under xterm cat I get ^[[D ^[[D ^[[D ^[[D - under rxvt cat I get ^[[D ^[[d ^[^[[D ^[[0d Probably the reason is that I have installed a Czech localization for the keyboard under X. Anyway, disabling and enabling options in the XF86Config file did not help. So in the end I made tested xterm on a machine with same linux and X system installed, but without localization. The result was: I got four different escape codes even under xterm. Finally I returned to the machine with the Czech keyboard localization and ran mc through rxvt. All function keys worked. Thanks for your help, Bart! Are there any readable configuration files that I could edit in order to influence the behaviour of function keys unter xterm?
