I appear to have missed something in my attempt to configure dosemu so
that it displays the latin1 charset correctly on the screen. To date, I
have changed the $_term_char_set entries in /etc/dosemu/dosemu.conf and
in /dosemu/conf/dosemu.conf to "latin1".

Difference - zero. Displayed German texts are badly mangled.
Unfortunately, I cannot submit a sample text, since the mangled displays
are corrected automatically when copied into my (Linux) editor and my
(Linux) email program and are then perfectly readable.

Since dosemu is used extensively both in Central and Eastern Europe, I
clearly missed something. My instinct is that I need to load the 850
code page; but I am unable to find - without having my nose pointed at
it - either the syntax of the required command(s) or where the
command(s) should be put in order to load the page as the default. It
should be added that I am reluctant to also change my keyboard layout
from its default (qwerty) - because I have got used to it and write
mainly in English. Given that regular contributors to the dosemu list
appear to have a lot of patience with new arrivals, so I have the
courage to send this query.
