this list is relatively spam-free if you realize that it's open. There would be a certain barrier to make it subscriber-only. A lot is already done to avoid spam: http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-info.html html emails are always rejected. any mail that contains a word that is in http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-taboos.txt is always rejected too. For instance I cannot type Nige - ria as one word. and yet a few get through, but otherwise there would be hundreds of spam per day! no kidding.
