We don't know what causes it, just that it only happens for certain keyboard definitions with dead keys, perhaps only if you use unicode on the console. The workaround is to edit ~/.dosemurc or /etc/dosemu/dosemu.conf and change the line that says # $_layout = "auto" to $_layout = "us" or the country code that is appropriate for your keyboard.
