let me try this again to linux-msdos instead of owner-linux-msdos
(I mostly read the mailing list and don't often send to it)

I am having problems with lredir pointing to directories that
are NFS mount locations for dos partitions I have on another linux box.
Is anybody succesfully running dosemu 0.99.[34] using NFS and lredir
to get to dos partitions and executables?
I have tried dosemu.0.99.3 and dosemu.0.99.4. Both acknowledge that
the drives were redirected:
C:\>lredir
Current Drive Redirections:
D: = LINUX\FS\mnt\dosd.deimos\ attrib = READ/WRITE
E: = LINUX\FS\mnt\dosc.deimos\ attrib = READ/WRITE
F: = LINUX\FS\mnt\tmp\ attrib = READ/WRITE
D: & E: are NFS mounted but F: is on the machine dos was launched on.
but if I try to launch an executable on the D: or E: drive
I get the following response:
(0.99.3 & 0.99.4 response)
C:\>xtgold
Access denied
C:\>
I put a few executables in the F: drive and they worked fine from there, so
it seems to have something to do with files that are accessed via NFS. I am
running dosemu as root and have /etc/exports on the remote machine as follows:
/dosc phobos.gvi.net(rw,no_root_squash)
/dosd phobos.gvi.net(rw,no_root_squash)
I have no problem accessing/deleting/writing these files from a
linux shell command line on phobos via NFS to deimos.
In dosemu I am able to go into the NFS mounted & redirected drives
and do directory listings, but not edit or even view files.
I have used dosemu successfully before with NFS using
emufs, emufs didn't work (has same problem as lredir) with 0.99.3 or 0.99.4
so I reconfigured config.sys and autoexec.bat to use lredir.
I have saved previously compiled dosemu executables so tried the last one
that worked with the NFS mounted drives. It worked just fine. Unfortunately
I only saved the date I backed it up and not the version number of dosemu
that it was. Judging from the dosemu source I have, it is probably 0.97.10.
(~0.97.10 results)
C:\>lredir
Current Drive Redirections:
D: = LINUX\FS\mnt\dosd.deimos\ attrib = READ/WRITE
E: = LINUX\FS\mnt\dosc.deimos\ attrib = READ/WRITE
F: = LINUX\FS\mnt\tmp\ attrib = READ/WRITE
C:\>xtgold
(XTreeGold starts successfully and can manage files no prob:)
I am running the 0.97.10 with the same dosemu.config file as with 0.99.[34]
so maybe there is something in the config that changed that I didn't catch
that is causing the lredir's drives to not work. I went through and
compared the config I was using with 0.97.10 with the example config that
came with the 0.99.3 source and didn't see anything that would seem
to effect being able to access the NFS mounted directories. I updated any
thing that changed.
system info:
phobos running linux 2.1.99 (faster machine running dosemu)
Universal NFS Server, version 2.2beta2
deimos running linux 2.1.65 (remote machine with dos partitions)
Universal NFS Server, version 2.2beta2
10Mbps ethernet between the 2 machines.
reveiwing /var/adm/syslog, it doesn't get any messages added when I try to
start a dos program under 0.99.[34].
/var/adm/syslog does get a few additional messages when I launch a dos
program under 0.97.10.
I suppose something in /etc/exports could be effecting dosemu access to
NFS that wasn't before so I will probably take a look at that. I tried to
activate some of the debuggin options in dosemu but wasn't too successful
at getting any responses so I'll probably take another look at that
sometime too.
thanks for any help or pointers
