program crashes

In attempting to run a dos program, I get this:

Running on CPU=486, FPU=1, rdtsc=0
ERROR: general protection at 0x12fcf: 66
ERROR: SIGSEGV, protected insn...exiting!

The program runs ok under dos 6.2.  How do I learn what is causing
this?  Is there a remedy?
