modem communication

Hello, 
        I'm successfully running apps in dos using dosemu. 
however, I can't seem to communicate with the modem. I've installed 
the modem (US Robotics 33.6k on COM2) specifically for the DOS 
app. 

        How can I get the DOS app to communicate with the 
modem? 

Any ideas??
