To Whom,
I'm resending this correspondence, because the well answered reply was
deleted by accident. For whom the toll called, would you answer this
once more. All others are also welcome. I've included in braces a few
answers remembered from the last reply and a little more detail to
clear-up any mystery.
Where can the advanced script commands in Linux for sh and bash shells
{man bash}, Linux C++ and Java programming commands/functions/objects be
found? I realize this is a four part question and it is on a networking
mail group, but I believe it has everything to do with networking. After
all, everything is based on the directional placement of a user through
programming languages in any OS.
I started creating a program that would search the entire OS and/or a
requested area of directories to find a subject within the files. As of
yet, I have not found anything with find, helpme, locate, man, grep,
etc. that gives me reasonable output on any given subject. If I'm wrong,
feedback is welcome {find / ... (only the first part)}. By the way, most
of the former programs spoken about in given combinations (find / -iname
'*' -fstype ext2 | grep -in '?' | less) have an error message created on
a global scale that outputs "broken - pipe," not to mention there is no
indication from where the output is coming if a search of 1,000 files is
addressed.
The reason for the former paragraph blah, blah, blah was to demonstrate
my necessity to have the request for the first paragraph. Even though I
carefully tried to notice what works in Linux while creating the program
in Win95, I finally hit a brick wall on a function that doesn't work in
Linux with C++.
--------------------------------
I have two more requests... they deal with security. How does one keep
users from moving out of their shell accounts with ftp and telnet
(advanced administrator referred documentations are a plus)? I realize
these are two separate issues with different settings, but they deal
with the same problem.
I also realize, "experience would cause me to avoid this issue." I'm
aware that many ISP vendors allow ftp uploading and downloading to give
users access to their shell accounts for html. I also know ftp permits
better security, then telnet.
Next, how do you keep users (local, remote, and global) referred to a
specific screen output message (msg.toomanyusers) when telneting or
ftping into their given accounts? What documentation would shed light on
messages through configuration settings?
