We use an Adaptec 6944/A quad ethernet card, which works flawlessly with
the tulip Linux driver.

I have not seen any 8 port cards anywhere, however assuming you have
enough slots you should be able to put more than one card in the machine
at once. Contact Adaptec for specific info. Also remember that the Linux
kernel defaults to have an arbitrary limit of 8 ethernet ports supported
by the kernel. To support more ports, a simple tweak to the source is
necessary, however this should be kept in mind.

I would seriously consider a multi machine redundant setup. We run 5
subnets with two redundant Linux routers, each of the two routers is a
member of each subnet. Should redundancy not be required, spreading the
load across a number of machines may be an option, for example, have 3
machines each with 8 ethernet ports. Connect 7 ports of each machine to
each network, and the eighth to a common internet ethernet with your
three routers and your internet gateway. To add redundancy, double up
the machines, same spec, and add dynamic routing. Our redundant setup
here has been solid as a rock, with a flawless record in 6 months of
service.

Graham
