Yup, and yup. I've done this for several of my laptops, and it works fine.
You can easily get 57.6K, and maybe 112K if you're lucky. At 57.6, most things
aren't too bad, but remote X is pretty sloggy. I would think that surfing the
net would be no problem, provided you can run Netscape (or whatever) on the
laptop.
   I've done it the other way - running Netscape on the desktop and using X
remote on the laptop. It's pretty slow over 57.6K PPP, but it does allow you to
run whatever Netscape you have on the desktop, keep your bookmarks, etc. and you
don't need to set up IP-masq.
