Good luck. I just wonder, since X.400 is non-negotiable, whether
the use of Microsoft software is non-negotiable? Six weeks on the
phone to Microsoft merely to discover the reality of your
predicament should be telling you something, very, very loudly.

X.400 is a vendor-independent international standard. Microsoft so
far has not shown an enthusiasm to support such standards, but
rather, a propensity to create slightly-noncompliant proprietary
variants which conduce to eventual exclusive ownership by them.

If you can't buy X.400 support on Linux, talk to IBM. The RS/6000
is IMHO overpriced, but the decision to make X.400 mandatory is
yours, and you need to face the cost of that decision.

Incidentally, if it is not prying into company business, why X.400?
About 10 years ago corporations and governments were making
OSI/GOSIP mandatory, and about 5 years ago they mostly abandoned
that position and embraced the Internet and IETF standards. Your
name is not Rip Van Winkle, perchance?
