Hello, I have redhat 5.0/kernel 2.0.32. To have my friends dialing my linux PC , Here's what I did (sorry if it's a long description..just trying to be as clear as possible): All my friends have an account already on my system (adduser) and I ve checked all permissions STEP I.-> Install my getty package: rpm -ivh mgetty-1.1.9-4.i386.rpm STEP II.-> Add the following line to /etc/inittab: m1:3:respawn:/sbin/mgetty -D -x2 /dev/ttyS3 (ttyS3 being my modem on COM4, which is attached to my phone line ) which seems ok, cause when I do a "ps -x", I can see it correctly loaded as one of my processes. Here are my main mgetty files: /etc/mgetty+sendfax/login.config /etc/mgetty+sendfax/dialin.config /etc/mgetty+sendfax/dialin.config (I wont really have to modify the config files to have mgetty running. With the default settings, mgetty should be ok). To create a win95 connection to my system set up like this, all the user has to do is create a new dialup connection, name it, give it my phone number, enter their userid and password, click 'save password', and connect. That's it. No terminal window! The login is negotiated between the two systems without your intervention. The problem is that my users dial into my machine with dial up networking, and nothing happens. It just dials my phone line and get into my vocal message box. No sign that my system is receiving their calls. I made sure my modem was on (I can connect to my ISp without problem), and they tried many things such as the IP of my linux box, or the IP of my dial up line. But the problem is the same. Their phone dial mine, and that's yet. I do not have a static IP so that's not as if I was asking them to dial a ppp server. They should normally be able to connect as a shell account. Mind you, that I have PPP already compiled in and connecting to my ISp is not a problem. thanks for helping George Lambert Sciences and Culture Commission, Edmon,ALB. - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-net" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
