don't use mysql i can't advise it !
the problem is, it's nearly no better than plain files,
makes trouble with resultsets containing empty fields
(at least under java) has no rollback or other more or less
sophisticated db-features ...
i'm looking myself for an appropriate db-solution for
no/low costs ... combinig apache/perl/database power
solid seems to have a new epensive licencing modell
adabas may be quite good but also isn't free
postgress is quite slow
interbase seems to be ok but has no DBI interface
