Hallo,
        I tried verious suggested things with no result, so I installed the
newest distrib of Slackware and then compiled a 2.2.6 kernel and almost
have it working. Much more so than before.  Whereas before all I was
getting was transmit errors on both the eht0 and lo I now have lo
working fine, and eth0 will transmit without error, but it dosen't
receive.  He's some trusty output for anyone who can help.  Thanks!
