Problem:
In your sendmail configuration you need to tell sendmail what hosts are
local (i.e. which e-mail should be sent out and which e-mail should be
stored locally). You probably have it configured to recognize
'mail.sjrs.gov.br' as the local mail host, but when it gets a mail for
'sjrs.gov.br', it doesn't realize that it's the same thing, so it thinks it
should be sent elsewhere. When it goes to send it out on the Internet, it
realizes that the hostname resolves to itself, and gets confused. Hence the
error:
554 MX list for sjrs.gov.br. points back to mail.sjrs.gov.br.
Solution:
It is likely that all you need to do is open up your 'sendmail.cf'
(usually /etc/sendmail.cf), and ensure that all of the following lines occur
somewhere within the file (search for 'Cw' a few times until you find a line
that start with 'Cw'):
Cwlocalhost
Cwsjrs.gov.br
Cwmail.sjrs.gov.br
It is also likely that you just have the 'Cwlocalhost' line right now,
which resolves to either 'sjrs.gov.br' or 'mail.sjrs.gov.br', in which case
you wouldn't need the corresponding line (because they are functionally
equivalent), but AFAIK, it won't hurt anything to have duplicates. Once
that's done, just restart sendmail and you should be set.
