Hiya - I'm having problems with our ethernet interfaces - mainly because
our BIOS is assigning both ethernet cards (an eepro100 and an ne2Kpci) to
IRQ 11
I've been through the BIOS options many times and unfortunately there seems
to be no way to specify an IRQ that each card should take - it all seems to
be "auto assigned" by the brain dead BIOS - I can disable IRQ 11 - but then
both cards just come up on 12. I've tried config utilities under dos for
both the realtek and intel cards - both say "IRQ assigned by BIOS" and
won't let me get any further than that. I have Plug & Play OS set to NO in
the BIOS - and have tried IRQ mapping set to both auto and manual
Initially our problem was intermittent freezes when the eepro100 locked up
(with "Transmit timed out: status 0050 command 0000" messages in the
syslog) - but I have fixed this by adding a "options eepro100 options=0x40"
line to conf.modules (don't know how kosher this is but it stopped the
"Transmit timed out" messages)
Anyway - the problem now is that I'm getting piles of "eth1: Interrupted
while interrupts are masked!" messages instead - which from my research is
due to both cards responding to IRQ 11.
I guess what I'm after is either
a) a way of forcing an IRQ on a card
or
b) a way for linux to be happy with the cards even though they both have
the same IRQs.
help!
TIA. Dan.
ps. is the line I added to conf.modules ok?
