Code,
To share a Linux machine's printer and filesystem, use SAMBA. If you're
familiar with file-sharing on Windows peer-to-peer networks, you'll recall
that you can click on Network Neighborhood, then click on the name of any
computer on your network, and then click on any drives/directories/printers
shared on that computer. SAMBA enables a Linux machine to appear and behave
in exactly the same way. There are a _ton_ of docs out there for this piece
of software. SAMBA v2.x comes with a web interface for configuration and
setup called SWAT. I would highly recommend using this. There are
step-by-step instructions for installing SWAT, as well. You can read about
and download SAMBA from:
http://us2.samba.org/samba/samba.html
To "share a modem" in Linux, just set it up as the network gateway (see
the HOW-TO on IP-Masquerading). To share a modem in Windows, you probably
want to do research elsewhere. But as far as commercial products go, WinGate
(when configured properly) is a decent proxy server, available at
http://www.wingate.com/. Keep in mind that you're not _really_ sharing the
modem, in terms of "shares" in a Windows-based network. You're merely having
one computer route through data through the modem, when necessary (as
opposed to actually having a /dev/modem or a COM2 "mounted" across the
network).
There are a lot of docs on the Internet that can be found simply by
searching the web. You might start at http://www.linux.org/. The more
specific the question, the more specific the answer.

Jason Sloderbeck
