My _guess_ is that your ISP has either a broken or blocked dns. Ask your
ISP for his upstream dns ip and plug that into your /etc/resolv.conf
What does a traceroute to these sites turn up?
If traceroute can't resolve the address... see above.
These are places I would start, not necessarily correct or useful.
