Hi, I'm using RedHat 6.0 and kernel 2.2.10. My host is behind a linux box
with masquerading enabled and with a ppp connection to my ISP.
When ppp connection is up, everithing is fine, but if the ppp link is
down, netscape got stuck two o three minutes until I can use it.
Looking at tcpdump output, it appears netscape is doing a dns query to
some place i don't know, because i haven't typed any url. As expected,
the linux box answer with a icmp net unreacheable, but it seems netscape
ignores it.
Below i've included some tcpdump lines, after the ppp link is up again,
to see what kind of dns queries netscape does at start, and what answers
sends my ISP nameserver.

tcpdump: listening on eth0
18:29:11.431573 myhost.1062 > ns1.landsraad.net.domain: 36512+ (33)
(ttl 64, id 804)
18:29:11.433622 myhost.1063 > ns1.landsraad.net.domain: 35815+ (41)
(ttl 64, id 805)
18:29:11.833720 ns1.landsraad.net.domain > myhost.1062: 36512* q:
news.arrakis. 2/4/4 (246) (ttl 27, id 38072)
18:29:11.913553 ns1.landsraad.net.domain > myhost.1063: 35815* q:
2.64.5.195.in 1/2/2 (157) (ttl 27, id 38113)

I don't understand what netscape ask for to DNS server and what kind of
reply sends this.
news.arrakis. is the news server i've configured in the netscape options.
what the hell is doing here??? 195.5.64.2 is my ISP nameserver. What "q:"
means in tcpdump?

Anyone can help me with this?

TIA
