Well you will probably have to change the ip configs on the laptops. If changing them back to their "work" settings is what you want to avoid, there is a nifty little utility called NetSwitcher for WinX to do this on the fly (sometimes it does require a reboot). http://www.netswitcher.com/ . its shareware so at least you can try before you buy.
