I've never heard of that, but I don't have much experience with ipchains either.
Try going ipchains -A forward -s 192.168.1.0/24 -d 0.0.0.0/0 -j MASQ
Also make sure that you have the same netmask in the ipchains line as you do
on your clients! It is currently set to 24 bit = 255.255.255.0
