Make sure you don't have password encryption on in the smb.conf file. If
you do, you won't be able to access the server because the password won't
work. You might have to tell samba where to get the passwords from! ie the
NT server.

Subject: Samba configuration problems

Hello all,

I am trying to share disks on a RH 6.0 with installed
Samba 2.0.3 with a LAN composed of Win 9x workstations
and 2 NT4 servers.

I understand the part gets a little tricky because of
the NT servers which domain controllers and main
browsers.
Indeed it doesn't work so well.
1. I can see my linux box from the Win9x Network
Neighborhood panel but the only shared - and
inaccessible - resource is IPC$.
2. I can't log on to the linux box by mapping a new
network drive as no password gets me in.
I have defined a [public] area in the smb.conf as
/home with public=yes and guest ok = yes, neither
\\myhost\public nor \\myhost\home are accepted
3. the lmannounce parameters have been set to yes both
in the smb.conf and in the Win9x registry as well as
plainTextPassword in the registry

What have I missed ?

TIA

ilan
