I haven't tried it with the 2.2.x kernels, but for the 2.0.x kernels
you can have 2 NICs with the same IP. I had 2 NICs with the samve IP
for a short time when I upgraded part of the network to 100BaseTx.
The problem I ran into was defining forwarding rules from one segment
to the other. I used it as a tempary mesure while I renumbered the
hi-speed part of the network... But now I am back to one NIC -
CompuGeeks had a nice 10/100 14 port switch for about $80...
