Hi all I am trying to set up a VPN and as I doesn't come so well I am now fishing for advice and experience. After extensive reading (O'Reilly, Howto, John Hardin's excellent page) I am still wondering what solution to implement. Here are my needs: 2 W9x based (Office97 and 2000) and Samba server(RH6.0 - 2.2.5) need to communicate. I thought of a SSH+PPP (O'Reilly VPN book - interesting but quite general, especially if you've already read other info) but it doesn't seem to help for the NetBIOS bcasts and my samba file share. Otherwise, FreeS/Wan is also an alternative but the IPSec support would force me to reinstall the Linux boxes w/ 2.0.36 kernels and I don't really know what VPN clients use on the W9x. I also found PoPToP (www.moretonbay.com), a PPTP server which combines both the advantage of 2.2.x support and PPTP for the W9x but I get errors when compiling the needed PPP 2.3.8 and Microsoft MPPE patch : ppp_mppe.c "dereferencing pointer to incomplete type" upon #make modules SUBDIRS=drivers/net Comments are much welcome.
