You can run an coax networks without shielding - I have 50Ohm Coax cable
here that is unshielded, and working - but it is not recommended,
performance wise in any case... EMI would also play an absolute crucial
role if you are using unshielded cable that runs close to electrical and
other wiring... But I guess you allready knew that :)
