Up to kernel 2.3.42 my SMC91C2 base net card (on a Dell laptop) worked just fine using SMC 9000 driver (smc9194.[ch]). Since then, even in 2.4.pre3, I've no option to set SMC 9000 driver from kernel config. When I force inclusion of this driver in my .config file (CONFIG_SMC9194=y), it compiles fine but eth0 don't starts at boot time: Bringing up interface etho Delaying eth0 initialization -> FAILED linux-net didn't report this problem, I think it's more a kernel problem than a net one.
