I was setting up an old 486/75 with kernel v2.2.16 when the CONFIG_CPU_IS_SLOW menu item caught my eye. As this pokey system has a 100Mbps NIC (a 3Com 3C574), I have to wonder: how does one know if a given Ethernet device can outrun a given CPU? What symptoms would one see if the CPU was the bottleneck in network communications? Thanks. - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-kernel" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please read the FAQ at http://www.tux.org/lkml/
