X-Win32 (www.starnet.com) does this well, and you can get a free
demo version that runs for 2 hours at a time. Last I checked it
runs about $US 200.

X-WinPro (http://www.labf.com/) at $95 also looks very promising,
though I've not taken the time to try it out yet. If you do, please
tell me how it went! :-)

Hello,

I'm trying to set up a PPP-link to an ISP using CHAP. Everything works
fine except for the authentication process. No problems with Windows. A
different provider using PAP works, too. I set up the configuration
using `pppconfig'.

Another question: What does the LCP configuration option < 13 03 00>

Here's part of the logs:

Subject: NFS mount problem
Date: Mon, 28 Dec 1998 17:28:04 GMT

Hi,

I'm having a problem using NFS on my small local network if I use the
hosts.allow/deny files under /etc. When I try
        mount aaa:/ /aaa
I get a failure with the message "mount: RPC not registered" on the
client bbb; on the server aaa exporting / I see something like this in
/var/log/messages:

Dec 28 08:32:12 aaa portmap[1328]: connect from 252.251.250.2 to getport(mountd):
request from unauthorized host

If I remove the hosts.allow and hosts.deny files from /etc, the mount
succeeds. The latter file simply has "ALL: ALL" and the former has:
"/ bbb(ro) bbb.xyz.org(ro)" where "xyz.org" is my domain.

aaa is running RH 5.1 and bbb is running RH 5.2.

I am not using DNS or NIS and all host names are in /etc/hosts which
contains:

127.0.0.1 localhost
252.251.250.1 aaa aaa.xyz.org
252.251.250.2 bbb bbb.xyz.org

Putting FQDN before the plain hostname in /etc/hosts causes telnet
connections between aaa and bbb to be refused with this message in
the log files:

Dec 28 ... aaa in.telnetd[416]: warning: /etc/hosts.allow, line 6:
can't verify hostname: gethostbyname(bbb.xyz.org) failed
Dec 28 ... aaa in.telnetd[416]: refused connect from 252.251.250.2

Reversing the order fixed this problem but NFS mounting still fails.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

It's not possible with Linux. AOL use a proprietary protocol, and AOL
software that makes use of that protocol is so far only available for Windows.

Perhaps they will see the light after the years, just like T-Online (kind of
a German AOL ;) did, and offer normal PPP.

If you got a real distribution CD for your linux, there are 4 how-to
documents to read which explain exactly what you need to do to set it up.
Usually these are found in /usr/doc/howto

If you are using the older code, you use ipfwadm. If you want to use IP
Chains then you use the command for it.

To find out about IP Chains and how to set up the rules, go to:

To find out about the older firewalling method and how to setup it's rules,

Let me know how it turns out . . . .

My only question is stability. Has SINUS been around long enough and
have a large enough installed user base to really be thoroughly tested?
When dealing with firewalls, I prefer to be conservative. The older
ipfwadm certainly has. IP Chains is coming up to speed as well.

I have a similar problem with an ISA NE2000 card. (0x300, 15). It worked
when my kernel was 2.0.35. When I upgraded to 2.0.36, it stopped
working. (I'm pretty sure the kernel was configured right). modprobe
eth0 says that it was "Unable to get" IRQ 15. And /lib/mod.../ne.o:
Device or resource busy.

This card worked till two days ago! I am reluctant to buy another card.
Is there any other probable curlprit?

Thanx in advance,

"NetGear" does not identify a chip; this company used various chips in
different cards. Recent NetGear models, for example, work with

Something totally different from "tulip" which is indeed required in
other NetGear cards.

An information on a packaging usually says nothing but checking
