I have install the RH 5.2 but I cannot setup my 3c509 card, when
startup and shutdown, it shown a message "symbol for parameter I/O not
found". Is my card's setup problem?? How can I fix it.
Thank you very much

I have a problem with my rooting and Linux, SuSe5.3, in combination with
Apache webserver . I have 2 nets. One of them works correct and I can
use with my clients in this net over the linix-machine the internet. The
second net is connected to the first over a novell-machine. I can ping
the linux-machine from the second net, but only the netcard eth0, not
die ISDN-card ippp0.
Who can help me? Many thanks.

Try setting it to jumperless at irq=10, io=300 and reserve those in your
bios for "isa legacy devices" . This will prevent anything from jumping on
it. I've had some problems in the past with funky ISA PNP cards.

Could it be an irq conflict?

What does /proc/pci, /proc/interrupts, and /proc/ioports say
with/without the NIC present?

DFE-500TX and DE-530CT uses the tulip driver.

I think the DFE-530TX card needs the via-rhine.c driver.

No, we won't ignore it. That gives all the "newbies" the idea that they can
get away with it, and that's bad for everyone.

"Ignore" is an instruction to the robots that monitor the TEST groups to
tell them you don't need a reply. Well, WE AREN'T ROBOTS!

Use alt.test. That's what it's there for. Posting tests to live groups,
especially busy ones like this one, is not a good idea.

... sorry ... no solution.

Here we have the same problem. I have posted in lots of newsgroups, and
asked lots of linux people, without any success. The nfs data flow
from the Linux PCs to the OSF DEC Alphas is limited to 250 kB/s
independent of the band width. Neither installation of the new 2.2.0
kernel nor playing with the mount options wsize/rsize does help.

I'm still trying to find information on net-pf-17, as pertains to proper
loading of the dhcpcd 1.3.17 daemon. I need the updated dhcpcd support for
my cablemodem. DHCP to ny NT box works great with the original 0.70 dhcpcd
version.

I haven't compiled a custom kernel yet, this is RH5.2. The README says I
should have kernel support for SOCK_PACKET, and the author says I may be
having trouble with it as a module. How do I tell if this SOCK_PACKET is in
the standard kernel.

Thanks for the help. This is kind of heady stuff for my first day using
linux.:)

Please post the specs of your network card. I don't have much experience
with PCI ethernet cards (since I usually use ISA jumperless cards to save
PCI slots), but maybe someone else will jump in and help as well.

You need to recompile your kernel with IPAUTOFW enabled and get
ftp://ftp.netis.com/pub/members/rlynch/ipautofw.tar.gz which has the
ipautofw program.

The following URLs should help as well.

Something basic is wrong if you had to hand enter the 98's mac
address into linux unless there is some specific reason because
of the cards your using. Arp arbitration should get these
addresses.
Watch the dialog with tcpdump -nei -eth0.
What is ifconfig -a, route.
What is nbtstat -A xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx?
What in hosts, lmhosts, networks on the MS machines?
What is ipconfig /all on MS?

I don't belive it's the Video card as it's an AGP and has no conflict under
Win95. Also, I can bring the networking stuff up manually after the startup
scripts are done and all works OK.. I will, however, double check that.

I had the same problem. My problem was caused by plug'n'play modem.
I copied modem settings on paper (from win98), set p'n'p off by modems
jumpers
and then set the modem to match those settings I wrote on paper. Now I had
to
re-install the driver on win98 that it worked over there again, but now it
worked on Linux also.
So plug'n'play was the problem for me.

RH 5.1/2.0.35

PPP works great from x using activate/deactivate. I also have a w95 station
that I would like to connect to the linux dial-up, but..

The IP masq how-to suggests that the kernel must be re-compiled with some new
options. What I would like to know is how to determine the options that are
currently selected since it will ask for each of them during the
configuration.

I tried 'make menuconfig' to get around all that, but it reports 'curses.h'
is missing. I have ncurses installed - is that the same deal? There doesn't
appear to be a curses.h anywhere on my system.

Thanks,

FF

Subject: Problem with internet connection: no response from anything but provider
Date: Mon, 25 Jan 1999 12:52:11 GMT

Hi,

(Config: S.u.S.E. 5.3, kernel 2.0.35, isdn, ppp) I have no problem connecting
to my internet provider, and pinging to that domain works a treat. However,
when I try to reach any other domain, there is no response. The nameservers
are working correctly, because ping does show the ip address.
What can be the reason for this?

P.S. My newsfeed is rather unreliable, so I'd appreciate response (also) via
e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks,
Edwin

Subject: ftp upload: permissions question
Date: Sun, 24 Jan 1999 18:35:59 +0100

Hi,

If I upload files to my Suse-5.2 server via ftp, they have -rw-r-----
permissions. For accessing them with Apache web server, they have to be
at least -rw-r--r--. I'm tired of uploading a file, closing ftp, opening
a telnet connection and doing a "chmod 744 xyz.html".

Where can I set which permissions uploaded files initially get?

Regards,
Hendrik

Subject: command ARP (Adresse Resolution Protocol) ?
Date: Mon, 25 Jan 1999 15:26:30 +0200

Hi,

I installed Linux (RedHat 5.1) and I have typed arp (to analyse
Ethernet/IP addresses). It works but
FEW minutes after typing the command?!

Is there a way to configure the time in order to ensure a fast ARP answer?

Thanks in advance

Chouki
