Hi...i'm having a problem with ipautofw and the new 2.2.1 kernel,
everytime i try to set a policy for it, it says setsockopt: Protocol not
available. What could be wrong? Also, i get this error after typing
this line
echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward, which enables ip forwarding.
My kernel is also compiled with ipautofw enabled. Thanks

I had similar problems with RH 5.1 and this card. If the
suggestion below does not work, try using the Pro 100 driver
and also setting the irq and io to 10 and 0x300 respectively.
Ultimately I wound-up getting a NetGear PCI 10/100 card for
$25. It was recognized on installation and works trouble free,
well worth the money.

I think its easier to install & work with.

What bugs? Could you be more specific?

I used the ipfwadm included with RedHat since version 4.2 and have noted no
bugs.. Granted, I had to learn how to set up a firewall, but that's not a
bug...

I will assume that you have automounting support compiled into your kernel.

In our environment, we have home directories scattered around on many
different unix boxes. The user's home directories are on their local
machines in /home/username. These directories are automounted to
/users/hostname/username . The user's home directory as specified in the
NIS exported passwd is also /users/hostname/username . The home directories
are automounted on the local machine even if the real directory resides on
the local machine. This is important.

I am assuming that you have configured the NIS client on your Linux box so
that you can do an NIS pull using ypcat. You can start the NIS client in
one of your system startup files:
    domainname your_NIS_domain
    ypbind
I understand that some versions of RH ship with faulty versions of the
NIS utilities. See RH home page for more details. I don't use RH. You can
get the latest NIS utilities and NIS information at
http://www-vt.uni-paderborn.de/~kukuk/linux/nis.html . You can get the
NIS utilities at http://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/net/NIS/ .

At this point, you should be to read the NIS map for the passwd group and
auto.users (Or whatever your user NIS map is named) using ypcat:
    ypcat -k passwd
    ypcat -k group
    ypcat -k auto.users
I am assuming that your NIS home directory map is called auto.users. If
this is not the case, substitute the proper map name. The output from my
ypcat -k auto.users is:
    pc23:~$ ypcat -k auto.users
    * -rsize=8192,wsize=8192,rw,intr        &:/home

I am assuming that you have a working version of autofs. We are using
version 3.1.3 from http://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/daemons/autofs/ .

The directory underwhich the mounts are made must exist:
    mkdir /users

Then you start the automount daemon provided by autofs and tell it to use
the NIS map for directories under /users . You should put this in one of
your system startup scripts:
    /usr/sbin/automount /users yp auto.users
Of course this must be run after the NIS client is running.

Now. If I have a user named fred and his home directory resides on a
machine named hp11, the passwd map has fred's home directory as
/users/hp11/fred . This directory is really at hp11:/home . I can cd to
fred's home directory from my Linux box:
    pc23:~$ cd ~fred
    pc23:/users/hp11/fred$
    pc23:/users/hp11/fred$ mount
        ...snip...
        automount(pid109) on /users type autofs
(rw,fd=5,pgrp=109,minproto=2,maxproto=3)
        ...snip...
        hp11:/home on /users/hp11 type nfs
(rw,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,intr,addr=10.122.164.111)
        ...snip...

Good Luck.

I have found a time server I can run on my OS/2 machine

seeing some unusual behavior when I try rdate to synchronize
the clock, though. Specifically, rdate sees the time as
exectly one hour later than the time server reports.
Observe:

[john@starfleet john]$ telnet rhino_house 13
Trying 192.168.0.1...
Connected to rhino_house.
Escape character is '^]'.
Sat Jan 30 00:16:04 1999
Connection closed by foreign host.
[john@starfleet john]$ rdate rhino_house

Why is this and what can I do about it?

Thanks...

I have the same enet card in my SuSE 5.3 box and it works fine. You may be
setting the card up wrong. I used the setup for a generic NE2000 adapter and
have no problems. I share internet and files through the net. The only
real difference is that I use a HUB, which I picked up at a computer show

edit the cmb.conf in the etc dir and comment out the two encryption
lines then use smbadduser to add the user and password for the user.

Create a user in linux first though.

ioctl(SIOCADDRT) device route: Network is down is the line I am worried
about. It seems there is a local problem with the routing, but I'm damned if
I can work out what it is. Incidently, this problem ocurred when I upgraded
to kernel 2.2 I haven't knowingly changed anything that might affect it and
it dialled in fine with 2.0.36...

I need your help!!!!

Cheers,
Chris.

Likewise here. I simply installed the 3c905 module and away it went. Maybe his
card needs to be manually configured (older BIOS or old machine).

Make sure your CD rom is mounted:

        mount /mnt/cdrom

Then give it a whirl :)

a win 95 Computer ?

Setting up Netscape to go through a wingate server is simple:

        1) make a www proxy on port 8080 (standard)
        2) make sure the interface is set to the NIC card and not loppback
           (127.0.0.1)
        3) the device it uses to go out should be any (wingate will select the
            appropriate device)
        4) ftp is accessable though this port (8080)
        5) if all else fails upgrade wingate (current is 3.0)

You do not need to make the ftp proxy. Use the http proxy instead.

can't vouch for this one, but saw this reference just the other day:

It might help...

Is Win 2000 compatable to anything? You happen to be running beta software and
you shouldnt expect it to work exactly the way it should. Wait for the final
and give it a whirl...or just stick to Unix.

The OS/2 Peer Services for file and print sharing were not included in the
original release of Warp v3. You need Warp Connect or Warp v4 for those
services. You can find OS/2 daemons for news, telnet, ftp, etc. on
hobbes.nmsu.edu that should work with your network.
