Just that RedHat 5.2 (Linuxconf) is NOT, I repeat NOT, 2.2 ready. If
you erase linuxconf or if you change something in the start ups so it
isn't used for aliases you will be just fine.

Are you sure about the irq? The two irq's that SB preferrs are irq 5 for 8
bit and irq 10 for 16 bit. Try this, got to the /proc directory and cat the
interrupts file. This may give you an idea whether your having conflicts or
not.

Subject: can't write to samba
Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1999 02:35:35 +0100
I've setup samba 1.9.x, and I eventually can print from Win98 and NT40 from
my Windows machine (called 'marvel') through my Linux box (called
'wonder')... Good!
I also can read files from my Linux box, even thes from the Win98
partitions, Great!
But, why can't I write to wonder's disks from marvel, though I declared them
'writeable'?
furthermore, I've installed a linux partition on marvel, but I can't reach
the network; however, Windows98 and Windows NT40 actually DO see 'wonder' -
/etc/hosts, etc/network seem ok, xinetd is running on both machines, I'm
puzzled.
Thank for your help,
regis.

Subject: Wizards? Changing IRQ makes ethernet quit working
Date: Thu, 11 Feb 1999 02:31:17 GMT
I have an Intel EtherExpress Pro/10+. I formerly had it at IRQ12, but want
to move my mouse to the PS/2 port (which uses IRQ12).
I change the ethernet cards IRQ in windows, and reboot in windows, and
everything is fine.
However, when I go to linux (RedHat 5.1) everything seems to configure
properly, but the pings just hang (except for those that get answered by
lo).
When I reconfigure for the new IRQ, I only change IRQ number in the
following two lines ...
in /etc/module.con
options eepro io=0x250 irq=11
in /etc/isapnp.conf
(INT 0 (IRQ 11 (MODE +E)))
Does anybody have any ideas as to why this is happening? The
/proc/interrupts prints out correctly, the most notable difference being the
0 for the number of interrupts when it is not working.
There are no hardware conflicts and windows works just fine.
Thanks for any help
Gary
P.S. I posted this problem earlier under the subject (Can't ping my
Gateway), but I have narrowed the problem down a little bit here (at the
time of that post the Ether card was not plug-n-play - it is now).

Does it have to be free? Take a look at www.crosswind.com - they sell
a web-based calendar/scheduler. Server side runs under Linux with
Apache. Client-side is just a browser. We're about to evaluate
them, though; aside from seeing their demo I don't know anything else
about it.

Start by trying to narrow it down. When the problem occurs, can
you reach out over the net by IP address?
What error messages are you getting, say from ping?
Any difference trying to ping a system on your local net versus
across a router?
What network card are you using?

Subject: 3c509b card
Date: Wed, 10 Feb 1999 00:16:45 +0000
My RH5.2 linux PC seems to have a problem at boot up with the 3c509b
network card.
I have used the DOS util to make sure PnP is disabled and it is
configured with IO of 210 and IRQ of 10. the /etc/conf.modules has this
information in but when the machine boots up it displays the following
error message.
insmod: /lib/modules/preferred/net/3c509.o: symbol for parameter io not
found
Yet if I log in as root and type insmod 3c509 and
/etc/rc.d/init.d/network start, it comes up without a problem.
Can anyone help?
Ian Neal

My isp, mtt.ca, will also terminate adsl service if the account is using
anything other than windows. Apparently, MacOs has crashed some systems,
and service is now discounted if the user has a mac or a linux box.

Subject: redhat5.2 - win95a share questions
Date: 10 Feb 1999 02:44:55 GMT
okay,
i'm getting more confused as i read more stuff.
I have a 95-redhat network using samba
I see rh52 in network neighborhood
I can open rh52 and nothing is shared (blank in window)
I did smbclient -L rh52
lists 1 shared dir with a $ at the end (hidden to net ?)
I did smbclient -L win95a
lists all the shared disks
how do i share my Linux disks/dir on rh52 so they show up in network
neighborhood ??
Thanks, and apologies if this is a too simple/stupid queston
e-mail replies welcome
Dave
