Sorry for the ambiguity...
Both cards are working properly, in Windows and in Linux.
I'm just looking for the FAQ or HOWTO on how to set up the 'internal' IP
addresses, subnets and so forth for each card.
Thank,

I've been trying to find documentation or just a pointer wrt
how to use the packet scheduling code, in particular RED.
I've scoured the documentation, I've read the code. Not very
illuminating.
Can someone point me at a document?

no kidding...in fact, I heard it just the opposite...that windows was
crashing itself and so many other systems, and has reduced the overall
productivty of soooo many people, that many of the telcos, and, uh, the
government...yeah, the government, them too...well, they're thinking of
forcing everyone to switch over to macs...

You can do it, but (depending on the game), you may need both computers to
have DirectX 6 or 6.1. Earlier versions didn't support firewalls. Then you
may also need to ipautofw some ports, again depending on the game.

Subject: How to boot with alternate IP address?
Date: 12 Feb 1999 01:44:44 GMT
Hi,
I would like to set up my Linux box so that I can have it boot
into one or the other of two networking layouts. In other words, a
boot-time switch to pick which /etc/sysconfig/network and
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 set to use.
The situation is that I'm building a new network, and there is
not yet a connection between the new network and my existing network.
When I want to log into various machines in the new network, I'd like
to shut down, swap from "Network A" ether cable to "Network B" ether
cable, and then boot up with the appropriate info for "Network B."
Has anyone done anything like this, or does anyone have any
suggestions/pointers as to what I should read?
Any help is appreciated.

It should be enough if you have a budget probelm requiing you to use
this hardware. If oyou are thinking of a server handling 100 hits per
second then you probably want something fancier. SQL databases fall
into two camps: almost SQL and cheap (mSQL, MySQL, et al) and the full
whack and expensive (DB2, Informix, Sybase, Yard, etc).

Apache has IncludesNoExec which wipes out that particular problem. If
you are using a parnoid site you might discover that the environment
of the web server was not quite as you imagined and have trouble doing
evil things. There are Linux boxen with very definately not vanilla
setups doing web hosting out there.

One of us is confused. Are you using Samba on Linux, or did you
buy and install NFS on the Win95/98's?
/etc/exports is used for NFS, the Unix file sharing protocol.
Windows doesn't do NFS unless you buy and install an NFS package.
Linux doesn't do Windows networking unless you get and set up Samba.

You don't need the hub with two machines, but you need a special crossover
cable. 10BaseT uses pins 1,2,3, and 6 in a straight-through configuration
(e.g. if orange-white is pin one on one end, it's pin one on the other
also). To make a crossover cable rewire one end so that 1 goes to 3 and 2
connects to 6. Of course, if you want to put in a third machine, you need a
hub and the cables are no longer any good.

Subject: Interconnecting isolated Linux boxes.
I saw references to this on the net but I lost my records.
We have two Linux boxes, each with a modem. We want
to do a simple interconnection so that either can dial up the
other.
We have read about PPP, dip and uucp, and tried
experimental dialings, but it is not clear how we should
set the computer receiving the call. I have experience
using SCO Unix, and the feeling that it was not necessary
to do a special setup on the receiving side; only a modem
and analog phone line.
Maybe one of the phone lines we are trying goes through
a switchboard. The modems we are using are Sportsters,
while the documentation generally implies Hayes-compatible
modem. The script that I use to establish PPP connections
with my ISP does not work on our test Linux boxes.
We are not giving more details because we may be making
obvious mistakes.
Could anyone tell us what are the major problems to
avoid? We are asking because there are too many variables
at play and it may take us a long time to notice all mistakes.
Thank you.

thanks.I did it.
But the problems is that I still can't use it.
I had little close network ,and I want to pass the "clients"(the internal
network) via transparent proxy.I work in 2.0.36 kernel with 2 Nic (eth0,eth1)
and I ran the following lines:
/sbin/route add -host 132.68.34.218 eth1
/sbin/ipfwadm -I -a accept -P tcp -D localhost 80
/sbin/ipfwadm -I -a accept -P tcp -S 132.68.34.218/0 1024:35000 -D 0.0.0.0/0
80 -r 8086
/sbin/ipfwadm -F -a accept -P tcp -S 132.68.34.218/0 1024:35000 -D 0.0.0.0/0
80 -r 8086
all command works ,except the last ( I got message:redirection only allowed
in combination with -I),but it doesn't matter, because the 3rd command is
enough.
did I forgot something ??
thanks again

Wow!
There are all kinds of ports. I recommend going to
http://cwstage2.cw.com/home/features.nsf/all/981130termslinks and checking
out the different computer dictionaries for IO or input/output, ports, TCP,
UDP, parallel port, and anything related that you have a question about.

Actually, some of us simply don't care. I've never heard of validator.w3.org

decent web pages up; should you have the net police take away my copy of
