Subject: Problems with incoming calls on ISDN device
Date: Tue, 2 Feb 1999 12:33:36 -0000

Hi all,

I have an AsusCom ISDNLink I-IN100-ST-DV card on Redhat 5.2 kernel version
2.0.36, using isdn4k-utils-3.0beta2-2. I also have a modem piggybacked
through the POTS port of the ISDN card.

I have configured things so that I am able to make an outbound ISDN call,
that side of things appears to work fine. My problem is with incoming calls
and outgoing analogue calls.

When I connect a modem or telephone to the POTS port on the ISDN card, I get
no dialtone. When I try to make a call from a telephone to the ISDN number,
I get the following errors in my log files:
Feb 2 11:10:54 netsvr01 kernel: isdn_net: Incoming call without OAD,
assuming '0'
Feb 2 11:10:54 netsvr01 kernel: isdn_net: Incoming call without CPN,
assuming '0'
Feb 2 11:10:54 netsvr01 kernel: isdn_tty: Incoming call without OAD,
assuming '0'
Feb 2 11:10:54 netsvr01 kernel: isdn_tty: Incoming call without CPN,
assuming '0'
Feb  2 11:10:54 netsvr01 kernel: isdn_tty: call from 0 -> 0 ignored

I guess here that the ISDN card isn't getting any D-channel information on
the call, but for whatever reason either can't or won't pass it through to
the POTS port.

Can anyone offer advice on what I am doing wrong?

Cheers,
Tom

try tail -f /var/log/messages &
/etc/ppp/ppp-on-dialer
This will give you hopefully more messages

how did you copy these files to your linux machine? (Ihope not from a fat
or vfat partiion)
run a dos2unix on the files and rechmod them to their proper modes and then
try again

I have recently upgraded my kernel to 2.2.1 from 2.0.35 on an evaluation
copy of SuSE 5.3. When I attempt to connect via PPP I exit with this
error in /var/message. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

OK, I loaded RH 5.2 and got everything set up except for the networking
part. RH setup couldn't detect the card. It is a D-Link DFE-530TX (not a
card that RH recognizes). So I went poking around on the web and newsgroups
and found a link that took me to the C++ code (the via-rhine.c file).
Here's where my troubles began. What exactly do I do with this?

Again, RH 5.2 didn't help as it couldn't see the card.

I'd like to get this box set up for the network soon, as I plan to install
either Cable Modem access or ADSL soon, and I want this to be my gateway/web
server/mail server/whatever else I can think of.

Thanks!

Aaron.

sure it can. I have recently installed it together with an NTFS partition. The
(re-)partitioning might be the only tricky thing. You can select at the end of the
installation the linux LILO, which gives you the ability to have a dual boot mode.

i'm a newbie to linux and was wondering. i've heard that the best way
to learn linux was with the help of a guru. sounds like sage advise!
is anyone out there willing to put them under their wing and help them

I'm running RH5.2/2.0.36 i have the exact same nic, and it works
fine.
I dont' know what to tell you about the error now, but if you can't
get it fixed and the system isn't critical, you might want to
reinstall RedHat, and answer yes to configure Networking and have it
autoprobe. I know thats a newby kind of answer, but i'm a newby
whaddya expect :) If you need me to tell you any settings i have in
my 'puter feel free to email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] seeing as
i'm running almost the exact setup as you.

Geoff,

You might want to check out what's in kernel 2.2.1 (www.linuxhq.com). I
believe there is some 3c509 items in there. I don't know if it has a
bearing on your specific problem, but worth looking into.

I've got three PC's one(server) running Linux RH5.2 with Kernel 2.2.1 and
two running WIN9x.
So I would like to use my internet connection for my three PC's and
therefore I would use my Linux one as a proxy or something like that.

Maybe is there a better solution...?
Any advice/pointer would be very helpful for me...

Subject: BIND.. I'm loosing my MIND!!
Date: 15 Feb 1999 21:57:15 GMT

Greetings All!

I've been using unix for many years now, but all I've ever used is
/etc/hosts. Now I'm trying to set up BSD on Linux (redhat5.2) and its
driving me nuts! I've been trying for about 2 weeks now and have read
everything I could get my hands on (BOG, Man pages, installation guides,
examples from the net....) and I'm stumped.

This machine is going to be a DNS server and its the only one on our
network. I've attached my "named" related files to the end of this
post.

If anyone can lend a hand, or point me in the right direction, It would
be greatly appreciated.

Here's what happens:

# nslookup gfux02
        Server: uranus.nativetextiles.com
        Address: 192.168.100.139

        *** uranus.nativetextiles.com can't find gfux02: no responce from
server
#
#
It won't find the address for gfux02
But if I do the opposite:

# nslookup 192.168.100.10
        Server: uranus.nativetextiles.com
        Address: 192.168.100.139

        Name: gfux02.nativetextiles.com
        Address: 192.168.100.10
#
#

it will find the hostname...

Also, finger gives "connection refused" errors.
Also, sendmail gives "Hostname lookup failure" messages.

Here's my files:

Could I print via their serial ports too?

I've two of them here, and AFAIK they're completely unusable

There is a VPN mini-how to that is pretty good. As for the IPX. Novell
4.11 servers support IP. You might want to switch them over to IP and do
it that way. I think that would be easier to do.

Where can we get IPAUTOFW?

Doesn't your list answer your own question? I'm not sure of how all this
works, but if the problem is that the system is doing a reverse DNS, and
if slackware doesn't do the reverse dns, wouldn't that explain why
slackware doesn't have that problem?

Subject: Redhat 5.1 & Loss of automounter
Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1999 13:29:09 -0500

Folks,
We are running Redhat 5.1 on Pentium II's, and using the
autofs RPM package for NFS automount capabilities. We are in
a mixed environment of Linux and Solaris systems.
We are noticing that after about 7 days time our Linx
server refuses to automount filesystems off the other Solaris
servers. The ones that are mounted (with long timeouts) are fine
and still available -- you just can't mount a new one.
If we reboot the machine, everything is fine again.

        Any suggestions would be welcome.

Subject: ?:Kernel V2.2.-IP Alias-eth0:0 Is Invisible To 'ifconfig"?
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have Kernel V2.2.1 up and running just fine. PPP, Masq and all are
working ... its just that I have a strange side effect.

My Linux machine MASQ's for my kids Win3.11 machine via a PPP dialup
connection. In order to make it flexible I IP alias the GATEWAY IP on
the same machine as my Linux IP address ... don't know why, I just
wanted to treat the GATEWAY x.x.x.1 address special.

When I ifconfig to view the ethernet devices only the primary eth0
(and of course lo and ppp0) show up, not the eth0:0 alias device. The
alias device works, it can be "pinged" and the MASQ setup works fine
(the Win3.11 machine points to the x.x.x.1 GATEWAY interface).

The V2.0.36 load I was running previously worked just fine as well and
was visible in a normal fashion (with ifconfig). Has anyone an
explaination or a fix for this situation. Its more of a nuisance than
anything else. I've been all through the /proc file system looking
for a reference BUT I can't find eth0:0 either.

I think all my utilities are upgraded enough. I am a minor release
behind on a couple of things and some packages I don't have installed
at all ... this is per the V2.2.1 CHANGES file.

Thanks in advance for any pointers and/or help!

Subject: IGMPv2 Leave in 2.0.36
Date: 15 Feb 99 18:37:28 GMT

I upgraded one of my computers from 2.0.32 to 2.0.36 recently. After
doing that, I noticed that multicast flows did not end when I left the
group, despite being the only receiver on that group. I discovered that
the IGMP leave message software was changed by 2.0.34, so I checked what
the packet was sending. It turns out that the group address that it sends
is the all-routers group. While this is find for the IP destination
address, the routers still must know which group the host is trying to
leave.

I looked at the code (igmp.c?) to no avail, as I don't have nearly enough
C experience to make heads or tails out of it. Could someone suggest a
workaround, or a fix, which will enable me to get this working properly?

Thanks!

Did you check the config files in /etc :
ftpusers
ftpaccess
ftphosts
ftpgroup

Normally, you should have also a /home/ftp directory !

Wu-ftp is a secure product, check the FAQ.

I hope that could help you.
