No, it's 2.0.35. (upgrades to 2.0.36 available in .rpm format too)

I did (2.2.2-ac5 here) and it's not unstable or horribly buggy at all.
It's _much_ quicker than 2.0.36 too.

Hi

for some reasons I have to run
MS Client for Dos inside dosemu.
This works, when I connect throw
the built-in ipx-interface.

But after some time, when the connection
is not used the connection breaks.
This is mentioned in the novel-howto, but
there is no solution.

I tried to run pdether or pdipx but I didnt succeed.
Can anybody tell me how I habe to configure it to
make it work
What ipx_interface do I have to add. Do I have
to enable vnet ....

I run dosemu 0.98.5 on Kernel 2.0.36.

Thank you for helping me.

Why is it when I try to connect to my linux machine in Network

I find out what that password is?

Also, when my linux machine boots up I get a subnet not configured on

Subject: problem with locking NFS-mounted directory
Date: 2 Mar 1999 16:37:58 GMT

Hi,

I have a network of Linux PCs and Solaris Suns. The mail spool directory
is on one of the Suns, exported through NFS to all others.

Now I installed RH5.2 and kernel 2.2.1 on several machines. I got
following strange problem:

Trying to run 'mutt' mailer fails with

fcntl: No locks available (errno = 37)

message. 'dmesg' shows:

  nsm_mon_unmon: rpc failed, status=-13
  lockd: failed to monitor 193.0.88.1

The directory is mounted properly, other mailers (elm, pine) work fine.
And what is really strange, there is a Linux machine (same kernel and
mutt) which works fine with 'mutt'.

Any hints?

regards, Michal.

I've been trying to telnet to my linux box from a W98 machine for about
a month with no luck. They can ping each other just fine. When I try to
telnet tcpdump shows the packets arriving at the linux box but they seem
to be silently dicarded. Eventually the telnet times out. Someone
suggested it might be my /etc/resolv.conf. It looks like:

     domain slackatude.com
     search gate.slackatude.com slackatude.com

My hosts file looks like:

     127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain
     192.168.2.1 gate.slackatude.com gate
     192.168.2.12 snort.slackatude.com snort

My routing table looks like:

     255.255.255.255 * 255.255.255.255 U 0 0 0

Sorry to ask a dumb question, but have you run netconfig and defined the IRQ and
IO addresses? I just want to make sure the basics are covered. I don't mean to
offend. You might try checking /proc/interrupts for IRQ conflicts, and
/proc/ioports for IO conflicts. On my sytem, the IO port would conflict, but I'm
not sure how I would ensure it's availability. I would think you would be ok as
long as no other device tries to use those settings at the same time. Since you
have no modem, I wouldn't think that would be a problem.

I've recently setup dynamic dns for my dynamic ip and now i have a problem.

I try to telnet to my box when it's up malfador.ddns.org and it connects
fine and i get a login prompt. But no matter what i try i cannot get in
with a valid user.

i created an account testme with a password of testme and thought i had it
setup right.. but to no avail.

And i had others from other networks try to use it and it would not work..
A few people told me that it may be PAM not setup? or something with my
deny files?

Can anyone give me a hand with this? I"m trying to create a workaround for
not having a dedicated IP/static for my little bbs. and it's no good if no
one can login :)

Subject: Trouble setting up Samba
Date: Tue, 2 Mar 1999 12:02:35 -0500

I'm trying to setup our intranet server as with Samba. I have named the
workgroup "linuxserver" and can see it in Network Neighborhood in Win NT.
But when I try and map a network drive to it, no matter what I put in the
path, NT says "the network name cannot be found"

Here's what I've got:

hosts file
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain
10.90.1.9 cityintranet cityintranet.main.va.us

lmhosts file
10.90.1.9 cityintranet
10.90.30.20 developer11 (my NT workstation)

smb.conf file
[global]
workgroup = linuxserver
server string = %h Samba Server
security = user
hosts allow = localhost, 10.90.
log file = /var/log/samba-log.%m
max log size = 50
socket options = TCP_DELAY

I am not able to see other NT servers anymore when I type smbclient -L
localhost. I used to see them even though I still could not connect to
the Linux box. Also when I type smbclient -L localhost, the workgroup
list shows linuxserver but does not list a master next to it.

Any ideas?

Older versions of dosemu required you to run dosemu setuid root if
you wanted to use the packet driver.

I think there is some problem in the linux ipx code that doesn't
know how to handle watchdog packets from the novell server.
Perhaps running a cron job that just ran 'slist' every so often might help?

> I tried to run pdether or pdipx but I didnt succeed.

pdether and pdipx don't care about ipx-interface, they speak
directly to the ethernet driver through a fake packet interface built
into dosemu. They contain their own ipx stack but are somewhat slower
than the Linux ipx. In the versions of dosemu I have seen, you have to set
dosemu suid root to use the packet driver. Perhaps you could make this
more safe with careful use of the dosemu.conf and dosemu.users files, but
it is a security hole.

To use pdipx, just say
    pdipx
    netx
as root (or with dosemu set uid root) and it will run. Pdether
requires lsl, pdether, ipxodi, and vlm/netx. Check the pdether docs for
the settings in net.cfg required to make it run.

vnet isn't necessary (or dosnet) unless you want multiple dosemus with network
connections. In that case you need it.

Subject: Ftp problem, root cannot login across telnet

I am new in Linux. Have managed to set up Linux 5.0.
I can telnet to it from Win98. I can also see and use linux directories
shared using Samba, after fixing the security problem.

But I cant get the ftp to work.

I also can not login as root on a telnet session (I keep getting "Login
incorrect" message, I can login as root on the console.

With ftp I first get the message "Connected to hostlx" and then the very
next line after a second "Connection closed by remote host". The user
name and password for microsoft networking on Win98 is same as an
existing user name/password on linux.

After each ftp attempt in /var/log/secure file I get two entries saying
"hostlx in.ftpd[475]: connect from 200.1.1.1" and "hostlx in.ftpd[476]:
error: cannot execute /usr/sbin/in.ftpd: No such file or directory".

Looking at file list, there is no /usr/sbin/in.ftpd. But there is one
/usr/sbin/in.tftpd. So I soft-linked /usr/sbin/in.ftpd to
/usr/sbin/tftpd.

But this only stopped the second error line in /var/log/secure file.
Nothing else changed.

I am probably doing something silly, but sure need help.

Thanks in advance guys.
