Greetings all:

I'm try to get PPP to run. Got the chat script working, and then pppd takes
over, and the line drops. No messages in the log file. Any general ideas?
By the way, I've seen logs with a lot more detail than mine. If I remember
correctly, there was a way to get more detailed information?

TIA
Brian

Rubbish. It's either secure, then post the real IP address, or it's
insecure, then you do have bigger problems, anyways.

Might be everything from a broken T-connector to a broken cable
(assuming nothing else is trying to use IRQ5 and I/O address 0x340).

No. This is the IRQ of the secondary serial port, and this setup

Usually, it's "Huh? junk on the line" , and the meaning is that another
program is trying to open the port without looking for a lockfile
for /dev/ttyS* (or without locking the line at all).

You _are_ starting mgetty from out of /etc/inittab, are you ?

1. NFS resolves symbolic links at the client side, not the server.
2. On my system at least, /usr/X11R6/lib/X11 is itself a link to
/var/X11R6/lib. So the NFS client has to have all the stuff
in /var/X11R6/lib directory.
Generally, you don't share /var between systems.

It's a DNS lookup problem.
Enter your IP's in /etc/hosts, and set /etc/host.conf to "order hosts, bind".

You changed the IP address of the system but need to update the support files
????
look at /etc/hosts and make sure that it has your machine-name and proper IP
address.
You should also check /etc/resolv.conf as well and confirm that the resolver
can function
as advertised.

Subject: bind named to interface?
Date: Fri, 05 Mar 1999 07:25:19 GMT

Hallo there!

I have a small network at home and named running on the server.
Now, if I am lucky I might get a permanent Internet connection and
would host some domains.

My setup:

[172.16.1.128]-+
[172.16.1.3]---+-----/[172.16.1.1] \
[172.16.1.2]---+    =A6  [dynamic - ppp]=A6------>Internet
[172.17.0.2]---------\[172.16.0.1] /

The gateway is running a (modified) SuSE 6.0 and Kernel 2.2.2 with
masquerading.

I have named running on the gateway with the internal 172.xx
adresses. Now if the ppp interface changes to a statical one and if
I get to host some domains, how can I prevent 'leaking' of the
private adresses? I can't run named of any of the internal computers
b/c (a)they aren't mine or (b) they can't be switched on all the
time and their OS's change quite a lot due to experiments on my
part.

I'd rather not have to use my ISPs nameserver b/c AFAIK they charge
quite a lot.

Here is my home/office setup:

Machine 1: SUSE 6.0 set up as a simple file server using Samba 2.x.
Machine 2: Win98
Connected via FastEthernet.

If I copy a directory (~300MB) from Win98 to Linux box via Samba takes about 6
minutes... if I go the other way, takes 96 minutes!

I have both hosts/ips pointing to each other in their respective hosts files so DNS
should not be a problem.

I'm still new at this so any help would be appreciated.

IRQ 255 is not a real interupt. This card is assigned its I/O port
address and IRQ from the PCI plug-n-play BIOS. You will probably need to
do some adjusting in the BIOS settings. Be sure that you have an IRQ
available for each PCI card that needs one.

No, offcourse not, mail and news don't use http, so a http proxy won't work.

Hi,

I have a firewall with ip_masquerading enabled.

linux A <-> firewall (linux B) <-> internet

It works fine with telnet and ftp from the linux A to internet. But
rloging from Linux A returns the saying error permission denied. Rlogin
from Linux A to LAN and rlogin from firewall (Linux B) to internet and
to LAN does work too.
I have tried it with -P all. No chance.

If any idea, please an e-mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Can I enter both of my IP's so that I don't have to change it manually each
time? If not, is there any other way of doing this?.... i.e., some utility
I can install.

One other option I have is to get my NIC ethernet address registered on our

Easy way to crash SCO OSR 5.0.5 kernel:

1) Attach Linux machine to network, with lpd pointed at SCO box.
2) Wait about 2 hours.
3) SCO kernel panics with trap type E in kernel function tcp_linput while
running lpd.

(In particular, this happens with 5.2 Redhat running 2.0.36 Linux kernel
and SCO 5.0.5 with rs505a and app477a loaded.)

I'd like to request that Linux developers try to nuke Windoze boxes
and leave SCO boxes alone. :-)
