I had the same issue, I resolved it by adding the hosts that I want to realy for to the
/etc/sendmail.cw file and restart sendmail.

Sorry for the delayed response.
When you subnet the 1st and last IPs of that range are not useable. In =
your case 64 is the 1st IP

I may have done the math wrong, but here is the table I generated. =

Yes. :-) You need to also use the ip_masq_ftp
option in the kernel to allow machines behind the
masquerade ''gateway'' to FTP to the other side
of the masquerade properly. I load it as a module
in my startup files, though I suppose you could
also compile the option directly into the kernel.

Date: Tue, 30 Mar 1999 23:50:00 GMT
I want to configure a dialin ppp server but...
In /var/log/messages i get:
Mar 25 20:05:14 xana mgetty[4918]: init chat failed, exiting...:
Interrupted system call
Mar 25 20:05:14 xana mgetty[4918]: failed in mg_init_data, dev=ttyS1,
pid=4918
And then i get:
Mar 25 20:05:14 xana init: Id "S1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5
minutes
So i think i need an init chat string for my ZyXel Omni Ta 128. I want
to use it as a dialin ppp server.
I can communicate with the modem via minicom, so i think the serial
port configuration is OK.
Thanks in advance

If you want someone to sanity check your IP chains settings you'll
have to post them!

Are you aware that some protocols (like FTP (other than passive-mode
FTP)) need helper modules?

Hi-
I am trying to set up a home lan like a lot of people do which seems like
an easy project but still not working so please advise.
I have one machine (vito:192.168.1.1) connected to the internet through PPP.
vito is running RedHat 5.2 workstation class install(it has only 1 G HD).
PPP is working and I can rlogin netscape etc.
Another machine (luca:192.168.1.2) is running RedHat 5.1 which used work
well by itself.
I installed NIC on both and 4 port hub in between. I setup Names, Hosts
etc as written in masquerade howto. Both machines are well connected
since I can rlogin from one to another with no problem.
So now it's time to install IP masquerade right?
It turns out to be that the server (vito) didn't have ipfwadm command. So
I installed ipfwadm using Redhat rpm. Then I execute the following from
vito:
/sbin/ipfwadm -F -p deny
/sbin/ipfwadm -F -a m -S 192.168.1.0/24 -D 0.0.0.0/0
It was executed with no error message but I still can't get out to the
internet from luca. If I try to rlogin any other machine in the internet
from luca I get
Trying xxx.....
Network is unreachable
What could be long? Thanks for reading this far. Please throw in your
words of wisdom.

Subject: Bridging in two stages

Hi could someone help me. I've got a network design/routing/bridging
problem.
I have a pair of LANs connected by a pair of linux boxes which are
connected via wireless network cards (Proxim cards). Here is a diagram to
explain what I mean :
http://www.spectrumanalytic.com/~wayland/misc/wireless.gif .
Everything works wonderfully. Right now I have the Linux box on LAN A
setup to do IP masquerading for everything behind and including the
wireless LAN (LAN C). This is ok. I can email, get on the web, but some
services break, FTP notably. Since I have a block of real IP addresses
that I use for LAN A, I'd like to use those on LAN B as well. I've tried
to use the bridging code in the linux kernel, to no avail. Perhaps I was
doing something wrong, perhaps not. I can give specifics if that'd be
helpful.
What I really want to know, I guess, is could the bridging work at all,
since neither bridge (one on each linux machine) would see the IP's on the
other side of the wireless link. Anyone have some pointers or tips?

I am having problems FTPing files to my ISP over an ADSL connection.
Downloads work find. Browsing likewise. Small files upload fine. Larger
files (~50k) take a long time or timeout. Uploads occur in short, fast
spurts followed by long periods (minutes) of no activity. FTPing over the
same ADSL connection on Windoze works fine with none of the above mentioned
delays (go figure). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have RedHat 5.2, so it might be the same as mine.
Do you have a file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 ?
If not copy the ifcfg-eth0 file and adjust it to suit. You may need to
add the 'append = "ether=0,0,eth1" to your /etc/lilo.conf as mentioned
before.

Date: Wed, 31 Mar 1999 15:46:29 GMT
I have 2 linux boxes connected via Tulip cards. one box is 2.0.36 (a linux
'router') and the other is kernel 2.2.x (I've tried all 'x' versions up to
latest, 5).
the connection is via a rolled (xover) cable. direct pt-pt.
whenI start the 'ping -f -s 1000' command on the 2.2 system, it seems to work
for about 30 seconds or so, then the backspaces (meaning the echo replies)
don't print and it seems the card then chokes and hangs. from then on, the
card or system won't respond. turning off network and back on again (etc/rc.d
stuff) doesn't help. only a reboot helps.
note that when the 2.2 system reboots, its again reachable from the 2.0.36
system. the 2.0.36 system does not appear to need a reboot to fix the hang.
anyone know of any network saturation issues with the 2.2 kernel series?
when I get a chance, I boot both systems to 2.0.36 and test some more. but
the 2.2 system is running dual cpu's (would that have anything to do with it?)
and I'd like to stay at 2.2 if possible.
the 'router' is a k6-2 system and doesn't really need the 2.2 kernel. and its
my entrypoint to the internet so it has to be stable ;-)
thanks,
