Hello,
I'm using RH5.2 Linux, Samba 2.0.3, mgetty_1.1.14-5, diald and all of
them working fine for my existing network.
I have a problem, my Linux box works fine for incoming call from
windows98 at HOME, and I can telnet into my Linux box. but I cannot use
the network neighbourhood to map the Samba shares as my local drive at
HOME. Is possible to do that?
Thanks

Could someone point me in the right direction to learn how to configure my
linux box so I can rsh to a unix box at work and successfully open an
xwindow at home running an app at work? My home machine is not letting the
work machine open an x display, and I don't know why.

First question is: have you got a PPP connection going or just
minicom? If PPP is not up, read the PPP MiniHOWTO. Once PPP
is up and running, you should test your connection by ping'ing
or telnet to and internet host. If that works, its more than
likely that your netscape settings are incorrect ;-)

I had the same problem.
I downloaded the latest smbfs-2.0.2.tgz from
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/smbfs/
recompiled it, installed it and it worked. Some adjustments
might be necessary in the Makefile, but otherwise, no problems.

Try NAT for Windows95/98/NT
http://www.nat32.com
http://www.uq.net.au/~zzdmacka/the-nat-page/
Its a fairly simple solution for home. My gateway is a dualboot
Win98/Linux machine. To the private LAN, it doesn't matter whether
its one OS or the other.

I'm using a linux box as a gateway with ipfwadm policies set to
forward internal, private LAN packets to the internet. One of
my internal machines is a Win98 box running VPN to a server at
work. There were no special requirements for VPN, packets were
sent out correctly. I suspect that an ipfwadm or ipchain policy
could resolve your port forwarding problem. Unfortunately, I can't
tell you exactly which one, I can only point in that direction.

Rich we need more information. IP addresses? You're able to ping the
linux boxes from the win 98 system, but you can't ftp or telnet? Do
you get connection timed out messages? Give more details :)

Hi, apache new user question..
I need to put html files in different directories , and could not make
it work..
If I put All my html files in the directory specfied in DocumentRoot
directive
it works OK. But I need to separate some html files to a user directory
and I could
not figure out how to make it work.
I tried to use the Alias, symbolic links, or Directory directives but I
keep getting
autorization errors or file not found errors in the browser.
For example I tried :
DocumentRoot /usr/local/apache/htdocs
and
Alias /pub/ /home/user1/
and created a symbolic link /usr/local/apache/htdocs/pub->/home/user1
and various other combinations, but no success at all.
I can access only the html files located in /usr/local/apache/htdocs..
I need to access also the html files in the /home/user1 directory.
Thank you

What is required to send a HTML message type e-mail message?
I am interested in investigating use of HTML formatted mail messages for
a project that I am working on. The project is being developed on a
linux server, but will most likely be implemented on a Sun or HP
system. I would like to be able to mail HTML forms. The clients are
using Outlook clients, which can read HTML formatted messages. Any
explanations about what type of mail servers need to be used, etc.,
would be greatly appreciated.

I actually use kernel 2.2.4 and I'm trying to use ipchains to do
IP-Masquerading and IP-port forwarding.
IP-Masquerading actually works perfectly, but IP-port forwardong doesn't
seem to work.
I'm trying to redirect any FTP access to IP address 192.168.200.80 (my Linux
router) to IP adress 192.168.200.3 (my FTP server).
I've tryied the following order:
$ ipchains -A input -j REDIRECT -p tcp -s 192.168.200.80 21 -d
192.168.200.3 21
What am I doing wrong?

NT, but I hate NT cause enough is enough.
Installation went fine my problem is my NIC.
1. Every time I look at the card settings it says inactive. I activate, but
I am not sure if that is all I need to do.
2. My card is the 3c905b-TX
3. Under Caldera, my card comes up as Cyclone
4. Under Redhat , my card is Vortex
My domain: bell.net
machine name: Binky
Static IP xxx.xxx.xx.xxx
Subnet 255.255.255.0
GW xxx.xxx.xx.xxx
host binky
dns search xxx.xxx.64.xxx
dns search2 xxx.xxx.65.xxx
I make the same entries as I do in NT and no luck. I heard the term
re-compile the kernel but does it have to do anything with me ?
Any help is appreciated.

Subject: ICQ behind IP Masq w/firewall UDP port 4000 ???
Date: Sat, 10 Apr 1999 06:45:21 GMT
Running 2.2.5 kernel with IP Chains installed. Running IP Masq with
firewall
rc.firewall file is as follows for MASQ timeouts and IP Masq:
ipchains -M -S 7200 10 60
ipchains -P forward DENY
ipchains -A forward -s xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xx -j MASQ
With this setup ICQ recv's TCP packets perfectly. Problem is that I
can't send. ICQ req UDP packets to go through port 4000. I tried the
following
ipchains -F (flush the firewall)
./rc.firewall (initialize)
ipchains -A output -p UDP -s xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx./xx -d 0.0.0.0/0 4000
then
ipchains -L (verified firewall policies)
It shows:
Chain Input (policy ACCEPT):
<nothing here>
Chain forward (policy DENY):
target = MASQ
prot = all
opt = blank
source = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xx
destination = anywhere
ports = n/a
Chain output (policy ACCEPT):
target = blank
prot = udp
opt = blank
source = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xx
destination = anywhere
ports = any -> 4000
Reboot windows machine, and it still won't send messages. So what am I
missing here. Newsgroups work, email works, web works, ftp works, irc
works, etc. etc. etc.
Ideas ?? Someone out there with IP Chains experience ?

Hi.
I have installed scotty2.1.9 rpm binaries included in RedHat 5.2 in my
system. When I try to run them I get the messages:
#scotty2.1.9

I don't know what's going wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Before you able to ping the Win machines, you got to be able to ping the
linux itself. I am not sure if you have that done already. i.e setup ur nic,
configure, etc on your linux. if not you got to do that first. Trying
pinging itself, "e.g. ping 192.168.110.1". If that works, that means ur
linux is setup ok. Do the same on ur win95 machine, if that works too, then
connect them together using a null modem cable (for troubleshooting). Trying
pinging each other. They "should" be able to talk to each other. Only if you
got this working, then you go ahead and play around with samba. good luck.

I believe there is a command : passconv, and passunconv to recover it.
