Well, on friday Freshmeat posted a new versio ssh 2.0.13 This version will work
with the new glibc and other issues with the new Kernel 2.2.x

Now if the ftp server would respond for me, I'll be able to try it out!
check it out at http://www.freshmeat.net/news/1999/05/14

ps - sorry about the wrong version numbers in my original post. Thats what I
get for posting first thing in the morning ;) The versions I tried before were
1.2.26 and 2.0.9 There is also a 1.2.27 version available for people who dont
want to run(why?) ssh2. So this must be an issue.

Pues basicamente para el equipo 1 seria este:

#! /bin/sh
ifconfig -v lo 127.0.0.1
route -v add -net 127.0.0.0
IPADDR=125.1.3.88
NETMASK=255.0.0.0
NETWORK=125.1.3.0
BROADCAST=125.255.255.255
GATEWAY= 125.1.0.222
ifconfig -v eth0 ${IPADDR} netmask ${NETMASK} broadcast ${BROADCAST}
route -v add -net ${NETWORK}
[ "${GATEWAY}" ] && route add default gw ${GATEWAY} metric 1

Aunque te pediria encarecidamente, que para un correcto funcionamiento
uses otros numeros, ademas de direcciones IP de tipo C.

Por ejemplo

Ip tipo 192.168.x.x
netmask 255.255.255.0
broadcast 192.168.x.255

You should be checking whether ghostscript supports that printer.
According to

http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/pht/current/pht-4.html
http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/printer.html

the HP 890 and 890C are supported but there's no mention of the 895 either
way. Try to find out from HP which of its "legacy" printers the 895
is closest to and then try that driver.

111 is the portmap port. It tells outside systems where the ports are

Set up your /etc/hosts.deny with

On linux that is just portmap, nfsd, mountd.

rpcinfo will tell you which rpc services are runniing.

Found what it was: The client host was not in /etc/hosts, and the
server would refuse connections because of this. No idea if this is a
security measure.

It's not run from inetd. Do a ps, and grep for rpc. You'll usually
see rpc.portmap, rpc.mountd, and rpc.nfsd. Unless you use nfs shares,
these three process can be killed off, and check you start up files
and comment out references to them to prevent the services from
starting on boot.

Yup. Hopefully you are running a newer version of the nfs services

Don't forget to add qmaild to /etc/services. Most distros say "mail"
for port 540.

Now, how do I tell my Qmail server (fixed IP address) to be smarthost
for my home Qmail system, with its ever-changing IP address?
The only way I can figure is to send through uucp.
I tried a dynamic DNS (ez-ip.net) but it doesn't work because
the Qmail server can't verify my home system in rDNS (I think).

first thing to do is look at boot/up/messages (dmesg)
there should be some lines concerning your nic , and your
eth0-configuration ( so in a xterm, type dmesg|grep eth0 )
see what you get there

I have a SMC Etherpower (SMC8432BT) that works fine under RH 5.2 but
doesn't work under RH 6.0. The link light on the hub comes on as soon as
the "tulip" module is loaded then goes off as soon as the startup scripts
try to "ifup eth0" the device. I re-compiled the kernel to have the
absolute minimum amount of drivers (modules or otherwise) which usually
solves my problems but it didn't help in this case. I'm using a HP
Pavilion 6370Z (Pentium II 350MHz) with ATI Rage Pro video board and 96MB
of memory. I would be interested in knowing what type of system you are
using. Some people don't seem to have any problems but others, like
myself, can't get the ethernet interface up at all.

Thanks,

Phil

Hello!

As far as I know dhcp has nothing to do with name resolution. And it's seems
that you are trying to resolve client's name to Ip address.

You need to use DNS or WINS, I think samba allows you to use your Linux box
as a WINS server for WIN clinets.

Good luck!

FWIW, to others w/ similar problems, I commented out (#) the above line
and diald seems to work ok now. I am a little concerned because the
scripts were _supposed_ to be written to work together as a whole, and
the purpose of the line shown was to kill pppd in case the process that
called it was killed/crashed. Any takers on an alternative method that
might work?

Thanks for the advice! Minicom seems like a more reliable piece of
software than cu.
However, minicom also prints out an error message when trying to connect
to the serial port.

When starting minicom, I supplied the -s option and configured the
following in the menus:

serial port setup->serial device: /dev/ttys0 (instead of /dev/modem,
which was default)
Bps/Bits: 9600 8N1

And after I pressed 'exit' from the configuration menus, I got kicked
out to the OS prompt:

minicom: cannot open /dev/ttys0: Input/Output error
[root@dio /etc]#

What's wrong? I did a 'ps' to see if there were any processes locking up
the serial device, but everything seems in order.

Please help me out

TIA
Rickard Westerberg

Subject: LinkSys Network Problem???
Date: Sun, 16 May 1999 14:40:42 -0400

I installed a LinkSys 100mbs ethernet PCI card
in a Gateway P90 desktop machine and a LinkSys
PCMCIA 10/100 ethernet card in a Toshiba
notebook. Both machines run RH 5.2.
I use the desktop machine as a
'server' by using telnet to connect to it from
the notebook. I use the modem in the desktop
and run netscape on the desktop and pipe it
back to the notebook. It works very well
for a random period of time...usually an
hour or so. Then the network slows down
drastically (one character transmitted every
few seconds) and finally stops. It always
requires a reboot of the desktop machine
to recover. Has anyone seen behavior like
this before? Any help is appreciated.

So far it has only occurred when running Netscape.
I have been running other graphics intensive
X apps and have not yet seen the problem.

Please email.

Thanks...Win

Well, first you have to figure out what it is that the "modem" wants--
ie ports, commands, etc to control the modem. (No info from
manufacturer). Then you have to impliment all of themodem stuff in
software. Then you have to figure out how to get all that timing
critical stuff out under a multitasking, multiuser operating system, so
that the OS does not swap out the modem driver at just the wrong time.

Then you discover that although this works for your modem, for the next
verion of yours it does not work, and it also does not work for any
other manufacturer;s modem either.

Note that the voice feature of modems is more standard, but there is no
good voice software. vgetty seems to have terminally bit the dust.

=====================================================  We have D-Link
ether cards that are just NE2000 clones so just rebuild the kernel to
support it
