Yes you are being hacked look under /var/log/secure to see if any
login's occured.

if you can create a stack over flow you can open a hole , that's what they
were trying to do!

it does'nt appaer that it worked, but start reading up on security issue
quickly.
once most hackers find a machine they will keep attacking it until they
get in or crash it!!!!!

I don't have an answer, but I do have more info.
I have this same problem on Apache under NT. I am
_not_ using virtual hosts, so I'm guessing it's not
related to that. I am using a cab archive.

Like you, when I try to launch an applet in IE, I get a little
picture, but no info in the java console.

Subject: PPP Success!!!!! Was a modem IRQ conflict problem
Date: Fri, 21 May 1999 18:23:45 GMT

For those who have been following my sad tale of getting a clean PPP
connection, I've finally gotten one--Netscape is now feeding me data
at 2.5-3 KBPS. It was an IRQ7 conflict between my modem and my
on-board parallel port. Since I will be getting a printer at some
point, and I don't know if I'll need the COM2 serial port, I disabled
COM2 on the board, and reswitched the modem to COM2 IRQ3, changed the
bootup setserial command, and rebooted. I got a good connection the
first time.

Now to look for some good news software (still posting this from Agent
in Windows)...

yes, you have to keep asking tech support and eventually someone will
forward you to the right dept.

'prime services group' does the actual install but they have NO

I still have the service but my boxes (that show the caller's #) are
external to my phone and now disconnected. I'm not 100.0% sure that
this was the cause - maybe it could be that extra bit of cable length,
but when I took the boxes offline, the error rate (red lites on modem)
went down drastically.

even one phone (phone has clock and alarm in it) caused problems.

Hi Greg,

It seems your modem connects to your ISP, but you don't start ppp on the
server. You can check how you need to login to your ISP and how to start the
ppp manually, using minicom.

You'll have to change your login script (if you use RedHat 6 you can do it
with netconf, or with the linuxconf or somthing)

I am splitting our network up by office. Say we have office A and B.
Each office would have it's own fileserver. How should I setup the name
of each machine? Say office B has the gateway gb, which links office B
to the central office A. Should the fileserver name be
filesvr.gb.office.net? For consistency, would I then name the machine
at office A filesvr.ga.office.net?

Ftp would work if you knew the exact url to the file you wanted over
ftp, or check http://members.home.net/ipmasq/ for info on port
forwarding if you want full ftp capabilites.

scare people into believing that linux and FSF is bad.

with DHCP. The org. driver from D-Link incl. a driver for Linux.
But only for the Kernel 1.xx.13. The Kernel on my system is based on series
2.2.25 does not really suport RTL 8029 (DE528CT).
Any idea?

Thanks Frank

I'm running xrn with the command: xrn -nntpServer nntp.ix.netcom.com.

I've got a good PPP connection (at least for browsing with Netscape)
but when xrn runs, it fails to connect to the server. Also, when I
try pinging the server, I get no response. I know the server is
working because I'm posting this message to it with Agent in Windows
on a different machine. Any ideas?

in de.comp.os.unix.networking someone just suggested that this is due to
Linux 2.2.X automatically adding the routing entry for the LAN. My scripts
(from 2.0.X times) add it a second time. Something to keep in mind when
upgrading to 2.2.X.
