I'm pretty new at this (linux, that is), and I'm having a devil of a
time getting RH 5.2 (v2.0.36 kernel) to recognize my 3CCFE575BT card.
cardctl will usually ident it properly, but I can't figure out how to
get the system to recognize it and let me use it as eth0.

I've tried editing everything from /etc/conf.modules to
/etc/pcmcia/config and config.opts. No Go.

I've used linuxconf and hand-entered what I could dope out, but No Go.

I've even downloaded and built version 3.0.10 of the pcmcia package, at
which point it (RH) wouldn't even recognize the card (forget that
cb_enabler.c and 3c575_cb.c wouldn't make).

<sigh>

Does *anyone* have this pc card working in a Dell Latitute CPi?

A learning bridge doesn't take any time at all to learn what it needs
to know. The modem may take a few moments to reboot, because it's
a computer, but learning doesn't take any time.

Perhaps you're confusing learning with training? The modem 'trains'
itself with the DSLAM to select a line speed. Takes a few seconds
typically.

Hi All,

I am sorry that if this is not the right place to post this mail. I want to
implement a general method to retrieve the accounting information from the
Network Access Server(Dial-in Server). I know RADIUS, but I don't whether
the popular dial-in server all adopt this standard? Any hint would be
appreciated.

Your problem is wrong LD_LIBRARY_PATH, /etc/ld.so.conf or missing
libraries. Remeber that you need copies of the shared libraries
things like ls need in a standard place under ~ftp for anonymous ftp
to work (the chroot() makes the copies outside ~ftp impossible to
reach).

Oh, I can understand some ranting...I felt similarly after all the
troubles I went through. In fact, I did have an IP assigned before the
installation guy came. Unfortunately, this IP was assigned to a router
that was not yet online. We wondered why we couldn't ping. After around
2 hours of calls, messages left on supervisor's voice mail, lots of
waiting, the problem finally was determined and they managed to assign
me a different IP (the one I have now) for a router that was actually
working! Then I could ping, I was up, the install guy left, and I was
happy...until my other problems surfaced. I won't bore you with those...

The pppd software can be found here:

The documents in the archive include several examples. There are
probably several examples on your installation CD if you have one.

Hi there !

I try to use BellSouth with my LinuxBox and X-ISP. I believe that I have some
troubles to know exactly want BellSouth requires for the connection. The link
is made, but it stucks at <ogin:>. Apparently, the login is not sent or not
received. I do not know if BellSouth requires a PAP-Secrets or CHAP-Secrets.
In that case would they (BellSouth) mind giving their remotename ?

Or if somebody has a easier way to connect to Internet via BellSouth, I will
be glad to know it. :-)

Thanks you all in advance.

Subject: x.25 newbie question
Date: Fri, 21 May 1999 21:12:37 +0200

Someone asked me to set up two linux boxes to talk X.25 with each other
using ordinary network cards. I hadn't even heard about X.25 before, but
found that there is experimental support for this in the 2.2 kernel.

I recompiled the kernel to recognize the network card (an ne2000-clone)
and support X.25. But now what? I suppose that I will have to use some
program similar to ifconfig to configure X.25. What program should I use
and where can I find it? Is there any good site or text file with
documentation for this?

I'm using Slackware 4.0 beta 3.

So WHAT IS ALL THIS coutry prefix and such about, and what is the MSN
supposed to be and all of this business.

The provider is a local call @ 8818022
My two phone nubers for ny two b channels are:
(425) 486 6512
  and
(425) 486 5820

I know not of any country codes or prefixes and if I define them as null
then
the cript complains about it.

ANy advice????

no, I'm thinking of spanning tree, which most bridges run. I'm
assuming this bridge is doing the

        'learning .. listening .. forwarding'

thing that 802.1d specifies.

Subject: FTP over IP-Masquerading

I have installed a linux box (SuSE 6.1, Kernel 2.2.5) which acts as
gateway between a private network (172.16) and the internet. IP
Masquerading is simply done with ipchains. Now the Problem: every
protocol seems to work, except FTP because the PORT-Command always gives
out the address of the internal machine, which is - of course - refused
by the remote host. Any suggestions are very welcome.

Thanks in advance
Kilian

Depends... you you want the party on the other end to know that
they're being denied? REJECT will send back an error... with DENY,
it'll look like your box has dropped off the face of the earth... :-)

Sure! Throw that old POS away and buy a new card? ;-)

Seriously, why would you want to screw around with that prehistoric
NIC?

Do I have to download the imap package, or is it already on the machine?
